Tell tale signs of knock?

Are there any sure signs your engines knocking? Apart from logging, is there my way to know? Was wondering how loud lifter tick should be..I have a buschur TBE, no muffler AND catless with gsc s2 cams and I can hear the ticking sound pretty easily from outside the car. It's much more pronounced on startup than any other time. Thanks in advance

I don't really know which type of knock your looking for? Pre-ignition knock or a rod-knock type sound.

If you think it's an internal engine problem, check in your oil/oil filter for metal debris.

The spark plug would show signs of detonation, if it were pre-ignition knock.

A video of the sound would help.

When you had the cams installed did you bleed the lifters?

I have seen guys not bleed them and the lifters break internally, only a few, but it does create a loud ticking upon startup because they don't retain the amount of oil they should on start up.

If you grab one of those diagnostic tools that plug into your OBD2 port they usually have knock detection from your knock sensor.

I have a feeling that's the problem. They were installed by previous owner.

If your car is knocking enough for the ecu to pull timing, you can feel your car not pull as hard as it should. Other than that, you can log it, or get a set of these:

Do what others have mentioned and make sure to verify you have good oil pressure. Really, really low idle rpm will have low OP. But unless your OP light hasn't flickered or came on, you should be good. Just throwing ideas out there..

Let us know what you find.

Oil pressure is beautiful. 15ish idle. Perfect cruise.
