Smoke coming from headers after install? OR what? Please help if anyone knows.

HI guys.

I just installed my megan exhaust manifold that I purchased from one of the members on here. It was covered in the heatwrap material. It was sitting in my garage for a while so I finally got to install it. I started the car and after about 30 seconds or a minute there is smoke coming from the headers area or near headers, its not 100% clear where its coming from and there is no smell. Headers are not cracked or anything, all bolts are tight like they should be.

What could it be?

Could it just be that the material been sitting a while in garage and got dust and now that the headers get so hot its just burning all the old stuff of? I don't wanna risk it and see what happens later so I shut the car off.

Anybody else had same experience or similar?

Is something like that normal?

Please help guys, just trying to avoid any damages to the motor while I can before it gets worse.... hope its nothing serious.

My new manifold smoked for a few minutes after installing it as well, I don't think you need to worry about it.

I have heat wrap on my headers. If any oil gets on it or they get wet or even your dirty hands touch it, the manifold gets so hot it burns everything. I have a slight oil leak coming from the banjo feed to the turbo and if the smallest amount of oil touches it, it smokes like crazy. Your good man hopefully then headers built well

Heat wrap will smoke some if new, or soaked with soemthing. If you used an lubrication, like for removing the bolts, that will smoke also.

I wouldnt be concerned unless it occurs for more than a week.
The only thing you are hurting is the environment.
Cheers

He's right man, do some searching on these and there crap. You get what you pay for that's why there so cheap, there just for looks pretty much. Get your stock mani ported and you'll get way better results. Or look up full race manifolds.

Moisture. If it's not exhaust, it's probably just moisture. Or if there was any WD-40 or penetrating lube used on any bolts.

Thanks guys for all the help. And you are right I did use wd40 to get the bolts loose so that's probably what that is.

Also since the headers are wrapped does it help it any? It came like that otherwise I honestly wouldn't even wrap it.

Im keeping my stock manifold incase something happens to megan and maybe in future I will port it. Will see.

You never know what it's gonna look like when/if you remove the heat wrap...Hopefully you didn't buy a used pos with crack(s) hidden by the heat wrap.

Sounds normal, when you can ditch that thing for a ported stock manifold
