excessive footwell heat
excessive footwell heat
my evo 6 gets excessively hot around the footwells both passenger and driver side not really burning hot but more like the heater for the feet gets turned on. but as i live in the hot country that is the philippines i've never turned the heater on in my car when i do turn the fans on and switch around the fans to the windows and then cab and then feet they all work but it definetly gets hotter as it blows more heat to the feet. it definetly feels like heat is getting blown onto my feet even with the fan switched to windows or cabin or when the fan is closed completely. any help would be appreciated.
i've also tried to find any holes thru the firewall that wiring might have run thru and letting heat in and sealed up most of the ones that are easily seen when you pull the carpets up. it also doesnt feel like heat coming up the floorpan from my exhaust pipe definetly feels like something comin from inside the dash blowing down onto my feet.

I don't know about heat going to the footwell, that would depend on the zone damper, but I also always get some heat from the cabin heater. The blend door in my car is adjusted correctly and works freely. On a cool day if I want to run the dash vents and avoid using the AC, pretty soon it is becoming warm. This, I know, is caused by there always being hot coolant in the heater core and some air leaking through.
In the tropics I'd think you could disable the heater core by looping one of the lines or by installing a manual valve in one of the heater hoses if you occasionally need heat.

Does it happen when you're stationary or moving? Try going for a drive and closing the vents to the outside. Meaning set your climate control to recirculate air. Make sure the fan is off. If it stops the blowing you know it's just outside air. That travels through the engine bay and gets hot.
