Evo 9 Turbo with Evo 8 9.8 Hotside

So here is my situation. I have 4 seized bolts in my evo 8 turbine housing, and they are not coming out without having to drill and retap. My fabricator said he has a buddy that would give him a evo 9 turbo for really cheap, although it has no hotside. He offered to drill out the seized bolts, re tap them, and put the turbine housing on the evo 9 turbo.

How would this effect the overall performance of the turbo? Would it be worth it? Or would it be better to just have him retap the threads and use the stock evo 8?

This turbo is going into my Honda…

Picture of my set up for those interested...

I say pick up that 9 turbo for cheap. Then get your hands on a 10.5 hotside & have your fabricator port it. Definitely an interesting setup for a honda. Anymore info on the setup/car?

I like the fact that the evo 8 9.8 spools fast, although I am not sure if I will still get the better performance benefits from the 9’s bigger compressor housing. I’d like to keep the 9.8 as it flows good enough for my build and quick spool was a big factor in getting this turbo and having a divided manifold fabricated. My motor probably wont see RPM’s past 7300-7500. I’ve seen this same turbo rev up to 8k on an LS motor(1.8 DOHC) with no drop in power.

My set up:
93 Del Sol
D16z6 SOHC Honda motor
Vitara Pistons
Custom length H beam rods
Stock head
Evo 8 turbo
Full 3 inch Exhaust

Looking for 300-350 hp and 260-300 ft lbs

My build thread is in my sig….

Nice, I had a buddy in Myrtle Beach with a CRX, built SOHC & evo 8 turbo. Sounds similar to your setup & from what I can remember it was making right around 300whp. I can't remember what boost level or the fuel being used as this was 4 yrs or so ago.
