Rise of the DD Beast - Complete Build w/ Pics

Update: Build Complete with Pics (Jump to posts 27 & 28 for the big finale)

At the end of September, I started losing boost pressure and noticed an engine rattle and decided to take it in to the Mitsubishi dealership. After the tear down that they charged me $500 for, they informed me it was going to cost 8k to get it back to stock (Bearing snapped caused scoring on cam shafts etc).

Broken Bearing

Scored Cams

After some searching around here and AZAWD.org, I found Phoung at Wingz Performance. He was incredibly straightforward, friendly and took a look the parts list and what they were quoting me (needless to say but I left the dealership feeling violated - no dinner or flowers or anything ).

Documented Rape - Page 1

Page 2

After discussing my goals for the car we decided to do a 2.3L tuned for E85 with the following parts:

Manley Turbo Tuff I-beam rods
Manley Platinum Series 85.5mm stroker 9.0:1 pistons
GSC S2 Camshafts
GSC Beehives springs and retainers
Forced Performance HTA Green Ball bearing turbo
- 25PSI Waste Gate
- 84mm Cover
- oil feed line kit
3 in intake kit from FP for their 84mm cover
Grimspeed 3-port electronic boost controller
Invidia G200 w./Ti Exh Tip
Invidia Downpipe
Invidia O2 housing
Invidia Test Pipe
Fuel injectors clinic 1120cc
Clutchmaster FX350
New Timing kit
Mains/rods/thrust bearings
ARP Main studs
ARP L19’s head studs
Walbro 450HP
OEM Engine complete rebuild gasket kit
OEM Oil pump/front case
OEM Water pump
Mishomoto Upper and Lower Radiator black hoses
Heater hoses
Balance shaft elimination kit

Even though this exceed the original 8k (50/50 parts and labor) Mitsubishi was going to charge me, I was getting twice the car I would have had if I just rebuilt it to stock.

Good luck. You should keep some money on the side for "crap that comes up" fund.

I probably wouldn't run E85 on a DD, but that's just me. haha. Having to carry extra fuel around, and fueling up more constantly became a bit of a nusance. In any case, your parts list looks great. I also have a 2.3L, using for DD and track. Love the low-end torque. Plus, you're using a Vietnamese guy to build your motor...that's a plus in my book! hahaha

Yea, really think about it; how much you drive, especially long distance. I ran E85 for over a year here in the Northeast. My job takes me some very long distances, and I always had to plan my routes, and carry 5-10 gallons on it with me. Also with weather changes comes ethanol content changes. I was very happy when I did the swap, but it ultimately wasn't worth all of the hassle.

Here a great turbo kit instead of the fp green and for the same price considering the kit comes 3" dp and o2 housing and better wg, but it looks like you already bought the exhaust system. I am using it and everything fit perfect.
