Evo Noob

Looking to buy an Evo 9 in the coming weeks and I would just like some guidance from the Mitsu veterans. Im very car savvy, but just not Evo savvy; I'm also not too arrogant to ask for some help. Now, my logic is that evos are usually getting beat up from their owners, on account of the power. So im just wondering what I should be looking out for when I'm looking at these cars? Whats any advice that anybody can give me? All I've heard is that evo clutchs are junk, and the turbos blow out at low miles. Any help would be much appreciated, and hopefully I can be a fellow evo owner soon.

Thanks guys!

Both things you've heard are false.

If maintenance is done on time and properly (especially fluid changes), these cars are generally reasonably reliable given what they are.

There are a couple good stickies you should read here:

Whoops! Should have done my due diligence first, always forget to search the forums. And my only issue is that the one I'm looking at is tuned to 380whp (unofficially), so im not sure how to tell how beat things are. But what is done is stage 2 clutch and Psi Precision tuned from Baltimore maryland. Kind of looking for a local mitsubishi shop to see if I'm getting f**ked or not.

they get beat on, but they take it all day. it seems like when you dont beat on them is when they break, in my case anyways.
if you want to know if the turbos going out, hit boost when ya test drive it, if you blow smoke out the exhaust its probably going bad.
if it smokes on decel it probably has bad valve seals.
and hit boost at like 3k rpms in 4th, youll find out if the clutch hold power or not.
other than that. just look for the usual, if anything or everything is jerry rigged together, body damage ect

great cars i love mine, ive had it for 4 years, wouldnt want anything else other than a R34

Like everyone else has said these cars are pretty reliable just make sure to check over the car you want to buy very well. Put it up on a lift and check everything out underneath as well if you have access to one.
