What to buy?
I've been doing some research on Evo 8s and 9s. What I have seen so far in my searches is that the 9s had a better setup as far as the motor and drivetrain goes. I love the looks of the interior on the SE models as well.
What I haven't been able to find is how the two different models are to live with as a daily drivers. So how are they?
My plan is to find one as close to stock as possible for a driver. Do mild mods over time (1-2 years) to eventually reach the 300-350 horsepower level. I really want the suede leather seats over the cloth seats. My choices of colors would be BLUE, white, and black.
So here is where I really need some advice. Should I get a 9 and pay the higher price in the beginning or get an 8 with some miles (under 100k) that is cheaper and add the leather? I want to try and stay under the $20k mark.

As a dd you should be fine with the 8 or 9. The 9 does have mivec and a slightly larger turbo which gives it the edge when both are stock. As far as price you should be able to find a very nice car for 17-20 g's with low mileage. good luck
Is there an advantage to the MIVEC when they start to become modified? Such as cams. I've been leaning towards a 9 just not sure since I do want to do some mods to it.

the 8 has its advantages no ACD less headaches when its time for repair but they lack power that the 9 has stock for stock and moved which gives the 9 more of an advantage with a ported turbo for more air and better valvee timing control. Once you add cams and a bigger turbo its anyone's game.
There are no real differentiators with a ix over an 8 that makes one that much better---sure we can talk mivec and larger turbo and acd, but then you have no acd issues, no real HP difference and no failing 6 speeds trans issues for the 8--- In modified form, no differentials at all, where one is good the other is better and visa, versa--. Dont sweat the small stuff, either will do the trick and do it well.
Thanks for explaining it
, I knew the 9 had more power but wasn't clear on what else it had better than an 8. What types of chassis things should I be looking for on an Evo that would indicate a problem in the past or in the future? I know what to look for on Mustangs but not Evo's. Wear points that show up from hard launches, etc. I'm trying to learn and do as much research as possible so that I can find one that has been taken care of.
