at what point do transmission upgrades begin to become necessary?

 

I made 587whp/458wtq and ran it for 6 months no problems daily driving as well as quite a few drag passes and hard launches. I just made 621whp/515wtq on a stock block/trans/tcase. Had a wastegate line pop off on the dyno and put a hole in the piston.

 

Built motor?

 

That was a stock motor with 110k miles. It's going to get built now of course.

 

ive gone thru a tranny and a transfer case... but i wouldn't say the evo has a weak drivetrain... i did a bad launch that destroyed my transfer case and did a few bad mis-shifts that destroyed the syncros ...people that had to get repairs done to the drivetrain would definitely say it is weak but i dont think so any car would go too if bad driver... ultimately both cars are superb its your decision to make... when i bought my car honestly an sti was sitting next to it at the lot and i test drove both... it just happened that the evo was running way smoother and stronger than the sti thats y i bought the evo if not it could have been the other way lol
