How long did it take you to find your evo?
Three solid months of looking. Had one guy on the hook for two weeks attempting to set a date to drive from Upstate NY to MD. Guy continued to flake, another possible contender popped up down state, drove five hours, liked it, drove it back.
I was at my wits end though, had the one I own now not panned out I would of went and bought an Sti. Even though I'm a subaru fan boy, I'm glad I didn't.

Well I have a sweet crx that I was doing a b16 swap in.. Couldn't get it to fire so sold it one day found a evo the next got a loan the next day. Drove 12 hrs to Denver the next. Year and a few months later Iv had to change my clutch, replace the shot struts with some coilovers and she's runnin strong! Do miss the gas mileage tho.. Lol
2 years dreaming, got a promotion with a nice raise then 2 months of intense searching all over, ended up finding one where I went to high school just a few hours away, 1 owner 85,000. Ive had her for 2 1/2 years and never looked back, payed her off in july.
take your time, you will know when you find the right one. good luck

Never owned an Evo before and looked for about 2 months. Biggest mistake I made was not knowing the platform and really what to look for. I jumped on purchasing my Evo because it was a high hp car with a bunch of mods. In addition to the price I paid for my car.. It cost me an additional $15k+ because I had to completely undo almost everything the previous owner did and then do it right. My advice, get an Evo as stock as you can which might take you longer to find one - but it will save you headaches in the long run.

Yeah I'd definitely would say settle for the right one even if it takes a while. You don't wanna settle for something you're not fully content with you know? It took me 5 months I believe. It's funny because it always seems like when you're looking for one, there's never one for sale.. or it's not you preference, but the second you stop looking or buy one.. BANG they pop up like flies. hahaha.

I've got mines currently up for sale hah, but you're in Florida. That's kinda far.

While that's the way to go, the reality is that there are so few bone stock or close to stock Evos out there, and the ones that do get bought end up getting modded "the right way" or however people want to call it. I highly doubt that a lot of those bone stock or close to stock Evos continue to stay that way when in a subsequent owner's possession.
A lot of the people posting in this thread are talking about having searched for months, and many of these people made their purchases years ago... the wait isn't going to get shorter at this point.
It's almost less of an overall hassle to just find one near you, get a good deal on it, then have it looked at thoroughly by a trusted, knowledgeable mechanic and fix whatever needs to be fixed or update whatever needs to be updated to get it to run like new.
