pros and cons

Hey everybody. I've been offered a trade on my 08 nismo 350z for an evo 8. I've done a lot of research on evos and I know I want one eventually. I've scanned the threads and was hoping you guys could tell me some things you love about your evo and sine things you hate about it. Thanks

Well I don't have an Evo yet... but

Pros:
Turbocharged from factory
AWD
AWD Launches
4 Door (practical) better rear view than 350z
Cheaper to mod and make power

Cons:
Not RWD(not really a con)
More expensive to maintain

It's all personal preference on what you like. The only dislike I currently have about my Evo is it has no motor. Hah. Machine shop is taking forever.

Both great cars. I have a lot of friends who have 350z's mostly 2007 hr's. An Evo cost more to own and maintenance is more expensive than a Z. Besides that, it's extremely mod friendly and goes a long way is treated with care. I'm actually thinking about picking up a 350z to daily because my Evo is a burn in my area lol

Pros: you'll feel like a boss every day you drive it

Cons: you'll hate every other car you own(now or in the future)

Pros: everything. Really easy to make power, I mean retarded easy. Handle excellent, drive nice, roomy, not really any blind spots, comfortable, easy to work on.

Cons: I would say none. But depending on the shape and how the "said" evo was taken care of. Could be a lot of maintenance. Could have issues. Could make you hate your life essentially

Pros: basically unlimited aftermarket support
cons: they attract a far more juvenile crowd that is pretty annoying. I would say make damn sure you know the history of that evo and if it's not 100% stock, or built with the best parts by the best people, don't go anywhere near it.

For me its:

Pro: Lots of potential for major power for little money, timeless styling, handles and brakes better than most cars on the street, roomy w/four doors, dependable

Cons: Back seat doesn't fold down to open to trunk, lots of road noise (hard to have a conversation on the phone especially if you have an exhaust and rowing through the gears), rough ride on stock suspension (can't speak for the MR but heard those aren't so bad)

As long as the car is properly maintained, evo's will give you years of happiness

I have a couple friends with 350z and 370z and one with a nismo 350z.

Pros: responds better to mods, awd, 4 doors, for me I use it to get to the ski basin with 4 ppl and skis and gear in the trunk. Its the same weight as a 350z and its a larger car. 4g63 motor is stout! Ppl on here are easily over 290k and one guy is 330k

Cons: exoensive to maibtain, insurance can be exoebsive dependibg ob your company, tend to be a targetted car depenfing where you live. Road noise(its a rally car, not designed with a lot of soubd deadening to conserve weight)

Otherwise I wouldbt trade my evo for anything. Best performance car I've owned and I've had quite a few. It waxes modified 350zs in basically everything.

Hey man, I was in the same boat as you about a year and a half ago. I had a 2003 daytona blue 350z. They are damn sexy cars by the way. Your 350 has the vq35hr motor so yours is definitely faster than mine was with the vq35de. I had the motordyne plenum spacer, popcharger intake, hks dual knock off exhaust and a couple other mods on my 03 350z. I loved the look and sound of the car and so did all my friends but after having the 350z for 2 years I just wanted more power. Once my buddies cobalt ss started beating me I knew I had to go another direction lol. I contemplated going with the vortech supercharger kit (for reliability sake on the de motor). I just couldn't bite the bullet.. spending 3-6 grand on the kit and then having to worry about how many miles I would be able to go before the motor grenades (my 350z had over 90k miles at that point). I joined this forum to do research before deciding if I wanted to sell my 350 and then spend the extra money to get an evo. After around 6 months of reading on this forum I saved up some cash and sold my 350z on craigslist. I put all my money towards a used tarmac black 2004 evo 8 and never looked back. I just felt like everyone had a 350z where I lived. Before I bought my evo I had only seen one driving around in person. The 4g63 motor is amazing and so responsive to mods. In my opinion I don't think there's a better performance car for the money. Boost is so much fun and these car take corners like nothing else. I can honestly say that after owning this car I will probably never buy another performance car that isn't turbocharged. You can drive it in nearly any weather condition and its a lot more practical than the 350z. Sorry for the long a$$ post and good luck with your decision.

All I can add is: after 10 years of ownership just seeing it in the garage waiting for me to drive it makes me happy. With other cars I've owned, and I've had some nice ones, after 10 years the relationship was over.

PROS: AWD, SEDAN, TRUNK, GOOD IN ALL WEATHER, MOD FRIENDLY, EASY TO BUILD POWER. amazing brakes, comfortable seats, recaros are OEM, fair milage if you keep your foot out of the tank. amazing fun to drive.

CONS: no trunk access from in the cabin(folding seat), HAS THE TURNING RADIUS OF A SEMI TRUCK, (NO REALLY, MY SILVERADO TURNS TIGHTER THEN MY EVO) makes strange noises, lots of rattles,

Jeremy Clarkson put it best, "It has the turning radius of Jupiter."

One con for those folks that must use cruise control, the evo doesnt have it so that's another possible disadvantage.

No cruise (might matter), strange noises, cheap parts, weak drivetrain (varies), finding a a LEGIT clean one isn't easy, Wing draws unwanted attention, expensive to maintain, insurance can be high depending on record/age, addictive to mod.

Those are just things to consider. These are not sensible cars to own when it comes down to it, I own one because I am an enthusiast and refuse to drive anything less.
