Can I boost below wga lbs rating?

Hi everyone,

Just bought a fp green set up and it came with a 25# fp wga. On my low boost tune I am shooting for 23 psi with as little spike as possible. Will a 25lbs wga allow me to boost below 25lbs minimum? I will be running a grim speed bc. Trying to decide if I should go with the 18 # wga.

On my high boost I will be going for 26-30.

Thanks
Damon

No you can't run lower than the spring force rating in the wga.

Unwittingly, the OP has posed a loaded question. Depending on how the manufacturer tests the actuator spring , detroit pistins' answer may not be totally correct. But, as a practical matter you should be able to run boost down to about 18-20 PSI with that particular 25# actuator fitted to that particular turbocharger.

So, to answer the general question....Yes, depending on how the manufacturer has tested the actuator spring rate, you can usually adjust manifold boost pressure down to a level below that of the manufacturer's advertised actuator spring rating.

Is this an FP 73 HTA Green fitted with the FP HD 25# actuator?

If you have not yet installed the turbo it is a pretty easy task to adjust the actuator for minimum spring pressure. Adjusted to minimum spring pressure, and with the BC zeroed out to its lowest possible setting, the 25# actuator should achieve pressure equilibrium at about 18-20#. This will be fine for your 23# peak setting. Therefore, there should actually be no need to ditch the 25# actuator or purchase a 18# unit.
