I have read on some threads that it's pointless to have a built motor and the stock turbo because I won't make any more power but I'm more concerned with blowing it up if I put I bigger turbo on that's why I was suggesting a 2.3 build

Just cause you have a built motor doesn't mean it wont blow up. Enjoy the stock frame turbos a little before you do. Thats why they built the ef2, ef3, green, red, bbk...now if you get into the 30psi with the reds, ef3, ef4 and fp black you probably want a built motor. You can have plenty of fun at 430/400 (mustang dyno) without blowing it up. Again most of this comes down to a competent tuner

I understand that but it will be able to handle the power better correct? I have wanted to stay with the stock frame turbo like a fp red or ef3 or 4 but I am new to the evo world so I don't know what brand is better or if I should just go with something different all together

Youre certainly in that buildable range. Is money an issue? An average motor build is at least 5K if you dont do it yourself. Or you can always buy say an EF3 and keep it at a lower psi until you build it and push it to 35psi

I was actually looking at the ef3 today and I was super surprised on the price I know it isn't bb but if you take care of your stuff the way you are supposed to it won't be that big of an issue.

just to throw my .02 in, I have a 2.3 on stock turbo, 27 lbs. I'm glad I built the engine knowing that when it comes time for a bigger turbo I already have that taken care of.

The car is plenty fun man but know that either route you go, if you do it right and take your time you'll end up with a great car.

Thanks for your input I really want to build the motor before it pops so I don't ruin the block and I can't imagine it makes the same power as it does now like I keep getting told... What kind of power does your car make

For street I would say get the 2.3 first with those number goals. To get that you will need to go with a larger than stock turbo which will shift your power band right with more turbo lag on a stock block. But with the larger displacement of the 2.3 will bring the power band back left with less lag.

what kind of numbers should I expect from a 2.3 with stock ix turbo I feel like this is the safe thing to do so I want to do that the price is what holds me back but in the end I know it would be better

I haven't dyno'd my car but a guy with pretty much the same build (2.3, VIII turbo, S2's, other basic bolt ons) on 28lbs and 93 made 380hp/400tq.

Me personally, I think this is a fun street car until I have the funds for a bigger turbo kit. I'd build the 2.3, you won't be disappointed.
