hid headlight flickering?

recently one of my headlights have been flickering. when i start the itll turn on for awhile, flicker a bit after, and then turn off. its also a different color than the good headlight, the good headlight will be a nice white while the flickering one will be darker.

is this a bad bulb or a bad hid ballast?

It sounds like the ballast is going bad. I had the same issue on one of my evo's. Easiest way to test is to swap bulbs from left to right.

I had the same issue, and then the bulb that was shorting out started to screw with the car's entire electrical system. I was getting CEL's flashing off and on, my battery amps would drop at odd times, lights were dimming, etc. I bought new bulbs, and that completely solved the problem. The bulb is going out. The easiest thing to do is to just order a new set, and swap them instead of going through all the trouble of taking the old ones out and swapping them just to find out that you need new bulbs, and then have to do it all over again when they come in.

Did you ever figure out what was causing this? I'm having the same issue. Mine was pink for awhile, now when I turn on the lights it'll stay on for a few seconds then flicker and shut off.

if it's an aftermarket hid bulb and ballast, don't forget to get a 40amp relay also. They're like $5 on ebay. The non-hid wiring doesn't have the capacity for the added current of the hid. I don't know too much about it, but that's how it was explained to me, and doing that solved what turned out to be two years of struggling with my hids.

Hid bulbs turn pink when they're going bad. In my experience, the ballasts will just stop working altogether if there is a problem with them. There are also headlamp fuses in the fusebox you could check. My money is on the bulb, which is unusually time consuming to replace.

I already have my bumper removed, I took it out to make sure which one I would need but wasn't sure if it was bulb or ballast so I decided to do some looking. A couple other people around here with Evo's are saying I wouldn't have had to take it off but to late now.
