Evo as a first car?
When I was 16 my parents bought me a 2006 Lancer Evolution IX with 7000 miles on it. I was mature for my age though, and very OCD and **** retentive. I never drove anyone or even drove fast. If you aren't dumb you will be fine. Got a Evo X at 20, and now a GT-R at 22. Don't let these people tell you what to buy and what not to buy.
lol unfortunately no matter how much a car costs there will always be teenagers there to drive them. Nothing can stop that. But that falls into the hands of the dumb parents who bought it for them. There is a guy who is only 19 in my area and "owns" I use that word loosely, an r35 gtr and a Audi rs7 sportback, it's just ridiculous when you see someone driving these cars as clearly did not earn it themselves let alone do the research.
Here in MN i dont think I've seen an evo owner under the age of 20 and i've met numerous evo owners well past 40. Lucky to be here I guess but I certainly wouldnt sell my evo because it seems like its becoming a 16 year olds car. Sounds pretty weak to me
I busted my **** to buy and mod my evo. Its my baby and life is a balance that we factor our toy into. To be gifted a toy is appetite for disaster as you dont hv the respect you do if you work forvevery cent of it from the buy to the build. My first evo owned at 32. Only dreamed of it prior to that. I am glad as well because I dont believe i was mature enough to own a car this powerful until then. Good luck and hope insurance not in your parents name. Have seen many mean, bad *** evos blowen up, written off by inexperienced drivers
Don't take offense here; but a Evo/STi its too much for a 16yr.old high schooler. A 300hp car is a lot for an average driver on the road, mind you -this isn't a average car. You as 10th or 11th grader in school, you will no doubt be giving rides to your buddies - which will get you in trouble quick. Insurance will be your killer, though, no way around this. If you do get a evo DO NOT TEXT and DRIVE....lol. seriously.
You can listen to these great people on EVOM. You can find a lot of great information on here. I bought my evo at 16 and Im now 20 and I was able to do a lot of things by myself with just the how to section here. Its your money, do what you want. Just don't be a jackass with it and cops are less likely to watch you. But unfortunately evos are always visible.
just remember, when someone else is in the car with you or on the road in another car that's when a combination of adrenaline, competitive spirit, hubris and over-confidence can and will CRUSH you. learn your limits in someone's parking lot and stay WELL within them on the street.

It looks like you have your answer already looking at the reply you have, But I thought I would give you my 2 cents. I wanted an Evo every since the first time I drove one in a video game (Project Gotham Racing) and I have loved them since. My first car at age 16 was a nice looking 89 Honda accord, with a really crappy engine. It was still fun to drive and handled well but had no power, cheap to fix though. My second car was a 1999 Jetta (when I went to college), that I still own and dearly love. It was some times expensive to fix, but fun to work on. Now that I am 29 I have no accidents on my record and speeding tickets are few and far between so my insurance is very low. I got my first career job and got an Evo IX. I love this car more than almost anything, but I am still glad I had a crappy car first. Its simply not worth the cost, danger, and status when your young to have that caliber of car. If your parents are going to help you just get a Honda Civic or something similar (Sorry Evom guys for the blasphemy). You can make them relatively quick with some bolt on's and they handle pretty good, it will never be anywhere near an Evo but as far as a first car goes, I don't think you will regret it.
Just remember you can get a speeding ticket in anything.....Like a crappy Honda with less than 95bhp

my first car was an evo 8 now own a 13 STi. i was responsible and respected the car 100%. self control is the key to owning a car like this. and make sure you know what your buying when your in the market for these cars. its very easy for you to make a purchase you will regret. its not peaches and cream these cars require strict maintenance and will brake if not driven properly. im 19 btw. do your research is my 2 cents.

- make a sale on my car now, but to a 16 year old. And no offense Skater, but it'll most likely get crashed and/or totaled in your hands.
