Color change

Just seeing if I should sell the car or try to paint it

When its paid off I want to soda blast the frame, but my question is I want to powder coat it the color i want. Would i be able to do this or should I buy another car?

And the reason I'm asking is because I want to do a complete restoration remove rust, re tap the frame, and rebuild it with new parts and custom it the way I want to do.

Im doing majority of the work except the powder coating portion

I would do a build. It would be something to be proud of. Have you considered vinyl wrap?

Yea but im planning on buying doors, fenders, trunk and hood that are used and just touch up the paint.

The body frame is what I'm concerned with i dont want to different paint colors.

Why would you buy a bunch of used body panels? What condition are yours in, just seems like you are creating more work for yourself.

You would have to strip the thing down to bare chassis to powder coat it. Not sure how the aluminum panels would deal with it either.

Also, the Plasti Dip option is growing, haven't looked to deep into it myself but seems to be a viable option to the vinyl wrap.

Plastidip is a great alternative, almost anyone can do it and its rather cheap. I have dipped my wheels orange, green, and white. I also dipped the lip on my bumper without issues but needed to redo it a year later.

When you say frame, are you talking the front cradle and rear sub frame assemblies or did you mean frame as in the entire main body structure? If in fact you meant the sub frames, you totally could strip them down, blast and pc them any color your heart desires. As far as the main body, man that’d be a stretch. I can’t say for certain that you couldn’t. But the 450 degrees for 20-30 min that powder coat goes through for the curing process would be hell on the roof skin as well as both quarters. If you’re trying to do a complete resto and you want to be in it to win it, you could go with your soda blast method after you strip the entire shell down, scrape out all the seam sealer and under coating, Put it on a rotisserie and proceed to blast it clean inside and out. At that point though, id say a good epoxy or mastic primer would be your best bet and paint it with a standard BC/CC or SS paint setup from there. (leaving out a few steps in between but you get where I’m going) So I guess back to your question...we would have to know what you think is rotten and in need of blasting. The shell and its unibody structure, or the subframe and cradle assemblies.
