DSport Mag has Evo cam test part 2 -- all 17 cams.
The rounding of the RPM make sense as to why the numbers don't exactly match up. It seems that if data is altered like that it should be noted somewhere for the reader. I hope you can understand how I was a little put off to see the fictitious Tomei 290 tq number then realize the rest of the numbers didn't exactly add up.
I'm not super pleased to find out that I'll need to purchase another copy of the magazine to get the corrections.

I’m sure Jun Chen had best intentions but mistakes happen. You should be thankful when a magazine takes the time and money to do any in-depth project on a car that is not the latest and greatest. I know I’m getting pretty sick of reading about GTR’s and BRZ’s. The Evo 8 is two generations old; acting like this could make any magazine think twice about doing anything like this again for older Evos. Times are hard for all magazine companies these days especially automotive magazines. I will thank them the best way I can and order a subscription
You made your point and got confirmation that you were correct. Is there really any reason to rub his nose in it, and then kick him while he’s down by saying you’re disappointed you have to buy another magazine? Take a little red pen and correct your own copy.

Could someone please explain to me why tq dips on some cams but not others on the lowend? Kelford 272 for example.

I have only seen the first magazine, the second one hasn't come out yet where I am. I have a question though. Did I understand right that the dyno runs were done with wideband 02 correction on? Seems a bit risky to me.
Wishful thinking, but it would be nice if we could have access to the dyno curves so they could be overlayed to compare specific cams.

For those that had the opportunity to read the entire tech article that accompanies the dyno results, you will learn that IVO (intake valve opening) timing plays a large part on how some cams did better at low end versus another camshaft (even when total duration is the same).
The cam results that are here represent the best camshaft for the engine combination that was tested. Some of these cams will perform better than others in different engines. Displacement, intake manifold and exhaust manifold design all have a big influence on which cams will work best.
On top of all that, tuning the camshafts with adjustable sprockets can allow the entire powerband to be shifted too.
We now have two EVO 8 blocks in the Club DSPORT machine shop and we look forward to more builds and more information to help all of the 4G63s. We hope you enjoy the information we plan to deliver in the future.

I just want to thank Michael, Jun,TheBoz and the staff at Dsport for an excellent test. Its been years since the AMS cam test and it was way overdue. The article, test and everything else was well written and performed. I can't even imagine the time and effort to swap 18 sets of cams and degree them in each time with the engine in the car. Great job guys and I look forward to future issues of your magazine.

DSport is an amazing company. I cannot express how grateful I am that they did this cam test. DSport really went above and beyond the call of duty to produce this. The mag is worth the yearly subscription.
It has really helped me to see how much a cam can change the profile of an engine. I would have never guessed that you can add 100+hp with a cam.
Overall I would love DSport to continue articles on the evo and the 4g63.
I don't really have a "dog" in this fight (Evo X, not an VIII), but I've always loved DSport (2 year subscription just ran out). I'm no master of dynos or the article in question, but I DO appreciate that the DSport staff came in and cleared up a seemingly questionable set of data (Again, not making any claims or assertions) without getting salty about it...nice job guys.
That being said, you should not do your research or make a decision based on ONE source medium, and anyone that reads ANY singular article and calls it golden fact has not done due diligence. Look for answers EVERYWHERE, decide for yourself what is credible, and go from there. Learn to read analytically, question everything, and read until a subject is ingrained and boring before making a decision.
WRITERS.....information you compile and publish needs to be as accurate and scientifically solid as humanly possible, and the areas of weaker methodology printed clearly with an intent of transparency (do the opposite of governments). As stated earlier SOME people will take an innocently or even carelessly written sentence, graph, or chart as if it's the be all end all of gospel writings....do you want that on your conscience if a mistake or assumption is made?
OPINION journalism is subjective based on experience and earned credibility, FACTUAL journalism should rely heavily on eliminating variables wherever possible when testing, and being up front about the variables that were NOT able to be controlled.

DSPORT isn't a paid sponsor for evolutionm.net yet, so I don't want to overstep my boundaries.
However, I'm sure if you Google DSPORT magazine, you'll probably find a website, maybe a phone number. Call it and you can probably order any issue directly if you cant find it locally.
Good luck!
