Angry Engine knock/Spun bearing at 6K miles?

Hello everyone I'm new to the site as for posting, I have actually been with you guys for a while but recently joined after hearing all the complaints about . I recently had a little run in with the company myself, I will explain below.

About 2-3 weeks ago my gf came home from work, I took the evo instead of my cobra. I havent been driving the evo, I didnt want to forget how to drive it . Well I back out of the driveway and get about half a block from my house, I'm in second gear at 3500rpms and I hear a rattle noise. I'm like wtf? So I call the gf and ask her if she heard the noise, she replies with " yes but it didnt seem like it was a bad noise". I then asked how long has it been there? She states for a few days. I immediatley call They said just to bring it in asap.
I had the woman and the kid take it in (hehe) they see a woman and a 4 month old kid getting out of the car they are not gonna give hassle about warranty repairs. WRONG! I waited back behind her in traffic so it looked like I just showed up after her to pick them up. The service advisor (mind you I have been doing service for years) asks the typical questions "how long has it been like this" ect..I then step into the conversation and tell him it sounds like a rod knock around 34-3500 and goes away after that. He then calls every tech to the service drive(like you cant hear a rod knock)and they all agree with me. Now after 30 minutes of questions like the damn FBI the service manager walks up and states "were going to have a rep come and look at it and determine if it's from abuse", I then flew off the handle very politely and stated "this is my gf's car and she drives my kid in it I really dont think she is racing anybody with our son in the back" and he still said dont matter I then said " then I need my loaner car" seeing how it wasnt going to be till the next week before we heard anything from . The service manger then stated "sorry I cant do that " I then asked why the hell did I get a set of cards from that states I have a loaner car for any repairs being done under warranty. The service manager gave the usual speach. I then told him he better call and get me a loaner car, I didnt pay 30g's for a car that needs a motor at 6k miles. also my car was in a fender bender the previous week, the pass rear door was hit by another person. The service manager seen the dent and was looking at it and said "I'm sure the rep would like to see the condition of this car". I then told him "last time I checked dents didnt heal like people" and I didnt have time to take it in to get fixed yet.
Needless to say I got my loaner car due to one thing.... just came out with a tsb for engine knocks in 03' lancer evolutions, so to all I just figured I would let you know about this little problem.
Yes the motor was replaced with a new short block and I was promised the vehicle in 5 days try 9 days. Then I received the car all scratched on the front bumper cover from the techs hoses and grease all over the hood, the plastic peice above the tower brace was all scratched up also, needless to say I'm not very happy.
And better yet....they lied to me and told me I needed brakes, that the wear indicators were almost touching. I looked when I got home..And yea it dont need pads! They quoted me $968.00 to do brakes.
Then two days later after we got the car back the lower radiator hose came loose, the tech forgot to put the clamp on the hose. And yes it overheated and I had it towed in just to make a point and have record of it.

Sorry for the long story but I needed to vent.
steve.

I have looked on there also, I was in the service managers office when the rep said it to him. Also the rep said to get the motor out asap. So dont know what to say, it could be possible that it hasnt been released on there yet. I know it shows no tsb's for my 03' cobra.

I highly doubt there are no TSB's or recalls on the cobra/mustang, It's a ford for christ sake. We all know there is no way that cars perfect. regardless why did they warranty out a motor and not give me any hassle? And why would the mitsu rep lie?

You really have an 03' cobra huh? Damn what are the chances of two evo owners with the same identical cars.

There should be a TSB for spun rod bearings... ThomBlazeEvo8 is a member here who has had 2 separate incidents. And the second one is NOT going to be covered by Mitsu. Litigation to follow...

Hypothetically, what kind of abuse could cause spun rod bearings? Low oil and hard driving?

Can be a series of stuff that causes a spun bearing ie...Low oil, High rpms with not enough volume of oil, over heating of the engine ect.....These conditions never happened in my vehicle or any vehicle I've ever owned.

And the guy that has had two diffrent motors spin bearings needs to take up the lemon law or complain to the company direct and talk about a buy back.

Yet again I really dont think a mitsu rep would mis state that there is a TSB on a engine knock.

Thanks for everybodys input.

The dealer might have just told you that there was a TSB for the knock, to save face, instead of appologizing for being an *******...when his boss told him to honor the warranty.

I do agree with you, but the weird thing is I was in his office thru out the whole conversation. I dunno? I got it fixed and thats more than most people get.
From what I understand is if the motor was lacking oil or was beat on the indication of abuse is the number one bearing being burnt/showing copper. Who knows?

Oh another lovely thing is, I have had the care back for a few weeks and the damn thing has already burnt 2 quarts of oil. Yes it has already been broke in by mitsu guidlines. I did notice on my other motor the car was burning a lot of oil also, I have owned sevral turbo cars and yes they burn a little oil but two courts in 2-3 weeks is lame.

What exactly happens when you have a "spun rod bearing" anyone?

usually it happnes when a piece of trash gets stuck between the bearing and the crank, wears a groove, and sticks to the spinning crank, causing a knock. also happens if the bearings are the wrong size, or overheat and sieze to the crank due to lack of oil.
the bearing half 'welds' itself to the crank, thus causing a gap between the rod and crank, resulting in 'rod knock'
