Any ideas on something to use to pop the gas tank door shut while waiting for the clip to be delivered? It is on back order so it is going to be awhile and the cap lid is just free opening. Thanks

 

A plastic door panel remover

 

Insert your key in the crack at the bottom of the cap. Then you can pull the release and gravity will pull the key down, opening the lid just enough for you to be able to open it the rest of the way with your fingers. That's what I've been doing for a couple weeks

 

Just bend the stupid tab in 1/8" so it won't latch while you wait to get the clip.

 

i tied twine to the release lever in the car. Then you can pull the lever while standing at the door

 

just remove the panel in the trunk and pull the latch out. It will just sit in the shut position and you can use your credit card/license to pop the lid open until the clip shows up.

 

this happened to me before. Just have someone or something hold the gas cap lever up while you use a card to pop the gas door open. Or go directly to a Mitsubishi dealership and buy it, should be like $1.50

 

Its the same part in a 1g/2g eclipse. Just go to junk yard and grab one on the cheap.

I put my evo key under the gas door handle in the car, and use another key to open on the outside when mine broke.
