Trading IX MR in for 2015 STI?
if you are tired of the evo, and want a new car, and like it, go for it. I have thought about it, but since the car is paid off, I will keep my evo forever. I know one day I won't be able to get parts or whatever, but the car is so good, I can't bear to part with it. maybe i'll trade my lightning for something, but the trade in would be so bad, I think i'll end up keeping that too. good luck!
Sti is a big step backwards. Sure it's a new car, but the engine, drivetrain and suspension have essentially remained unchanged. While the WRX got the new 2.0 gdi engine, the Sti kept the old ej257.
The subaru motors are horrible to make power on, don't last under heavy abuse, and there are lots of them with problems stock.
We're spoiled with the 4g63 platform because of how strong and problem free it is. Tuners and builders feel like kings with the Evo. Step into the Subaru world and it's a whole different ball game.
Boost creep problems, MAF is maxxed out at 20g turbo level, pancake pistons with ring land problems, crap intercooler setups, understeering pigs, etc, etc. The list goes on and on. I work on a lot of Subarus, and have been for over a decade now. There's a reason why they keep us in business, and also why I'll never consider buying a wrx or sti.

Thanks for the advice, guys. As I posted before, I have a lot of open track and W2W amateur racing experience, and have seen a number of STIs blow their motors on track. I really don't want to sell my IX, but it is 8 years old and has 127K miles, and is getting tired.
I could afford to keep the IX MR and buy a new car if I want. I have actually been considering a C7 or new Cayman S. I could afford cars like that if I really wanted to drop $80,000- or so on a car, but I like the idea of paying $35,000- or less much better. I think you are right about the Subaru 2.5 liter turbocharged boxer as being an old, problematic engine. The new WRX with 2.0 DI turbo might the better choice.

I have a lot of open track and amateur W2W racing experience, and have seen a number of STI blow up on track. But I would be buying the 2015 STI as a daily driver that I would not take to the racetrack. Do these cars blow up in hard daily driving on the street and freeway?
I have an '04 S2000 that is a track toy, and a '92 NSX that I occasionally track when I lose my mind . . .

just go to nasioc or iwsti and search.
all kinds of info on the ringland issue.
stock, stage 1, stage 2..... Grannie driving... doesnt matter.
there is a mix of cars out there that have broke them.

Keep your IX! BIG Mistake to trade that in (Especially for a 'sub'!)! Invest just a little to 'freshen it up' maybe and you have a reliable, better handling and looking than that 'blue thing'...IX's are worth alot more AND more desirable now especially with the X dying...The old saying: "You don't know what you have till it's gone"...Save yourself that trouble and future headaches...

My friend just got a new Launch Edition...and I was very impressed...engine is old, but they have managed to continue improving the car...the interior is superb!

FWIW, i had used to own the same car i have now. i sold it and regreted it every day after. it took me about two years to find another. i can't think of any real reason to ever get rid of this one.
