Help for a soon to be Evo owner....

Hey I should be getting an Evo in the next month. And I would like some feedback. Im 19 and would like some feedback so I can stay away from the wrecked Evo thread. I currently am coming from a Ford Bronco to an Evo. I was wondering what kinds of help you can give me to save myself from doing this. I am definitely going to take a course from the BMWCCA to help me in my new venture. And I am definitely going to ease the hell out of it because I know what can happen when you go out full boar as soon as you get it.

Thanks,
hunter

Don't do it man!!!!!!!,Too much fun, excitement, acceleration, and speed for a 19 year old to handle,no to mention the cost of insurance.Only kidding man.I am just jealous that something like this wasn't available back when I was 19,not that I could have afforded it anyway(LOL).Good luck, have fun and remember
Speed kills!!!!!!!

Just know your limits.
I was 18 when I got my EVO and people were very rude with me. this will probably start a flame thread but ignore all of those people. Some are concerned but some people are just being mean. They said I'd wreck my EVO in weeks or months, but I'm approaching a year in having my EVO with no problems. (knock on wood)

I called progressive the other day and asked them about insurance and switching cars, I found out that insurance is only 177/month I was very pleased. I have 2 accidents that occured nearly 2 1/2 years ago. I am on my parents insurance thought.

Take it slow and respect the car and don't even try driving to your limits on public roads. Alot of people including my self are realizing that the EVO's limits are higher then their own driving ability. You would be better off in a Vette, 996 or even m3 then a EVO for a first high performance car.

Those cars are a little more forgiving and give the driver much more worning when they are approching the limits.

Good luck man! I remeber buying my first high out put car when I was 19 and boy was I very stupied when it came to driving like an ***, but live and learn.

Eric

That should definitely be the first step. Take a whole bunch of driving schools. Start with a car control clinic (wet skidpad, accident avoidance, emergency lane-change, etc) to get a feel for how throttle sensitive the car is and learn how to deal with trailing throttle oversteer, etc. Then move up to a few proper track events.

The Evo is very senisitive to driver inputs. You need to be SMOOOOTH with all controls: throttle, brakes, shifting, steering. If you ever feel an adrenaline rush...slow down! You should never feel that while driving. It means you're in over your head. That feeling of adrenaline/excitement is your most sensitive indicator that you're driving above your ability level. Learn to listen to it and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Emre
