Whining T-Case is it safe to drive long distance?
Ok so after making some great power with the car, i started getting the death whine from my transfer case. Since it started i barely drive the car more than a few miles ever so often. It started whining a few weeks ago. Plan is to take it out and send it in sometime soon for a rebuild. Is it safe to drive around and baby it? I would like to take the car out of town in a few weeks, but dont want to risk ending up on the side of the road, lol. Not looking for a standard you dont need to drive it cause your doing more damage comment. I realize that its not good for it, and i will be rebuilding it soon. The car will not see boost at all during the trip if i do drive it. Just want to get some insight on if anyone has driven their car long distance with a whining t-case as unpleasant as it is.
I have the same experience before. when I was in Georgia I was driving to savannah it was 20 minutes from my house and the transfer case when off completely that I cant drive it. I call the dealership and they told me that the transfer case was lockout. I bought a new complete transfer case because it was almost the same price that rebuild it.
Like what I told my friend that currently has the death whine, it can go out at 100 miles or it can go out at 10k miles. He's been driving it for a couple months now with no lockout. Not going to say you should do the same. Just letting you know the risk before you drive on it.
My old evo 8 had deathwine, babbied it to work every day 15miles one way. I probably put 8k miles or so on it and never had it lockout. Ended up selling it though. But like Piro Fyre said it could be 100 or it could be 10000 ya never know
