600whp EVO reliability

Hello-

I am looking for a new car and I am not sure what to get. I always love the EVO and regret not getting one a long time ago. On the top of list is the EVO and the Lexus ISF. The Lexus can only be modded to 450whp but is very reliable and is a very nice well built car. I driven one and is a very fun car, it doesn't depreciate ether and I can live with out AWD.

The EVO allows me to make the 600whp that I want and cheaper than the ISF.

I come from a Fflly built WRX with 6466 turbo on E85 making around 600whp. I had some issues with the car an I was on my third motor after 67K miles. Broke my stock 5 speed,

There is an EVO a really like with a FP black, built buschur 2.0 long block, buschur tranny and tilton clutch. It has 2000cc injector and is on E85 and it made 600whp on buschur's dyno.

I wonder if a car like that will be reliable to DD. If I end up getting the car I will not run more than 32psi... around 600whp dynojet I believe.

To people that have 600-700whp. How often does their EVO breaks?, what is the biggest issues? how often will I have to rebuild the motor? how many miles do you have with 600whp+? Do you daily your car?

I have two car but I would like to enjoy the car everyday .

A GTR would give me what I am looking for but is out of my range right now...

Thanks

600HP isn't much for an Evo with a built motor and clutch to hold the power. If its built properly it'll be pretty hard to break. 100% better than the Subaru platform for HP. I daily drove my car for a long time at 630HP. 2.0L, 62MM turbo, and E85 with exedy twin HD. That was with a STOCK BLOCK by the way. I have over 120 time slips from my stock motor from 550-700HP.

I would advise on getting the Exedy Twin HD clutch if you aren't making over 500TQ. It drives really nice.

The EVO's have no issues. If they do, its typically from lack of maintenance.

That really depends for a lapping car that does 20min sessions no evo at 600+ hp last. Nor will it last if you launch it every chance you get.
However if your a DD romp on the gas once in awhile it could last forever.

Sorry but anything that is built and beyond the stock turbo is not reliable!

1.) Holy ****!

1.5.) Holy. ****.

2.) Extremely extremely true. Can't stress maintenance enough.

OK....

How many miles can you DD the car without having to work on it? By working on it I mean something other than doing normal maintenance.

I see that you have buschur/STM car.... After how many miles are you having to rebuild your motor or tranny?

I am not going to be launching the car a lot but I will do a lot of pulls. Yeah the tilton clutch will have to go.

Like I said, if the car is built properly for the power you want, they wont have any issues. I've seen Buschur motors last over 80k miles. The trans should last even longer if can drive a manual properly. Only thing you'll need to perform is regular maintenance (fluids, belts, plugs, etc). People have been building these cars for 10 years now. If they're breaking at 600HP, you're doing something really wrong.

Stock trans with Exedy Twin HD is all you need.

Properly taking care of everything and you will be fine. I drive like grandpa with spirited runs here and there. It is my DD so I take care of her. Good luck!

I mostly agree with what everyone is saying, but, any amount of hp is only as reliable as your tune and the quality of the parts you used to achieve that hp. And with any aftermarket turbo kit, you can always run the risk of boost leaks and things of that nature which can effect reliability, regardless if 300whp or 1000whp. So moral of the story is, ensure you use quality aftermarket parts from vendors like Buscher, STM, and so on, and use a reputable tuner. Do that and stay on top of maintenance and you stand a great chance to DD 600+whp reliably.

I assume that you will use this Evo as a DD. In that case a 600 hp Evo is going to just a reliable as a 300 hp Evo as long as you take care of it.

If you are familiar with doing required maintenance on a turbo car then you should be fine. Just get used to the idea of working on it from time to time.

If you are going to be relying on a shop to do the maintenance for you then the Evo can stay reliable but you better have deep pockets. High Hp cars have shorter service intervals.

Badevo is definitely in the minority as far as 600+ and reliable.

The parts on the evo are not built to handle twice the factory HP on a daily basis. I am speaking specifically of the drive train.

But some last longer than others. My car was around 570hp for 13k miles and never ever broke. I had about 20 drag passes on it. But again, this is the minority.

Good luck.

I have about 17k miles on my self-built 2.3L / 62mm BB turbo / pump gas Evo making 510/405 on a very mild tune and have had no problems. Using an ACT HDSS PP with a Fidanza FW. Only thing I would change is going back to a steel FW as it's a little rough to work with in city driving. Just taking care of normal maintenance and checking everything regularly is all that's needed.

The car I am looking has 100% buschur built with all buschur parts...

If there custom tunes for the IS-F I would get one instead of the EVO... I bet that motor is build like a tank.

Motor? I'm pretty sure no one here is referring to the motor. The evo has a GREAT motor that is very, very strong. It's the drivetrain that takes a beating.

Horsepower is cheap. Reliability costs money.
