A good quality 0 gauge power cable isnt terribly heavy. My theory on this is, lets say for the sake of argument, that 13 ft of 0 gauge power cable weighs 10 lbs. That 10 pounds is being dispersed evenly across the lowest part of the floor in the car, and mostly in the center between the 2 axles. I beleive this will promote better ballast in the evo than say, having those full 10 pounds out in the left front corner of the engine bay, up high.

With that said, if you take the weight of a oddysey pc680 and 13ft of 0 guage power cable, and say 2 ft of 2 gauge ground cable, your still less weight than the weight of the oem battery. I actually weighed this stuff, but it was years ago. I may have posted a thread on it on here, but I cant recall

You know there are more efficient ways of charging a battery than using gasoline to power a 2 liter engine only to (among a host of other things) spin up the generator coil.

Just get a $40 battery tender.

My 21 pound Braille Battery (mounted in trunk) can last just over 2 weeks without starting up the car during Winter storage. I keep a Craftsmen Battery stabilizer/charger on it on for about 5 hours a week, and it's perfect! And, it's 3 years old. I'll never go back to a big, heavy, bulky battery.

i guess race batteries are really meant for what the name suggests.

when it comes to competing against the clock… even if you were to save weight on 1 bolt.. you will remove for the race.

let alone getting rid of a bulky big heavy conventional battery

i'm in a similar spot with this guy. this and i'm paranoid about enough charge getting to the fuel pump etc.

Maybe an "upgraded" miata battery isn't a bad idea, i.e.,

saves 13lbs over stock at least? thoughts?

For me, personally, I'm going to stay the course with my current interior, battery, and weight of the car until I get some track times to show me where I'm at. I'm going to compare my track time(s) to those in the fastest times thread in the drag forum plus weigh my car as it sits once I get it back from Fathouse. If I'm in the low 11's, like an 11.1, then I'll probably look to improve driver mod and reduce some weight and get into the 10's. If I run in the 10's, I'll probably keep my interior where it's at. A 10sec street car with full interior and body trim, to me, is where I'd love to be.

im running the 51r battery, been doing so for a while, no problems at all. about 11-13 lbs is a lot off the front, daily driven all year around. i think the miata batteries are a tad cheaper than the honda batts.

good to know - no issues at all i gather? what's the longest you've got without starting the car up?
