Bushur double pumper question
Bushur double pumper question
I have run into an issue with my fuel system. I am towing the car tomorrow to my shop to work on it but would like some input from anyone educated on the topic.
I walked up to my car tonight after it was fine all day. I hear the fuel pump on. remove the rear seat and the fuel pump access panel and put my hand on the top of the pump. I can feel the pump on. The car will barely start and then stalls. I don't know how long this pump has been on for, possibly hours. I unplug the factory connector on the top of the pump, pump is still on. I disconnected the battery and it stopped obviously, reconnected and its back on. I added a google pic for those who don't know what the top of the br double pump looks like. I disconnected the red wire in the picture and the pump shut off finally. Reconnected factory connector, attempted to start to see what happens. Fuel gauge now reads empty and will not start, neither pump turning on.
Has anybody had this happen before or can share a schematic or shed some light on this system. I was not the installer so I do not know the exact wiring of this system. I am a mechanic so I will understand if anybody has some info that is useful. Thanks.

so does the red wire go to the hobbs switch and that only operates the second pump? If so then with that wire disconnected and the factory connector plugged in shouldn't the car still start and run using the primary pump?
Problem solved. When i connected the factory connector it made poor connection. Re-connected factory connector and car starts and runs, fuel gauge works. Found constant power on the red wire. Hobbs switch is bad causing secondary pump to always run.
i have mine wired for both pumps to run all the time (current set up doesnt use the hobbs switch)... and i was thinking about running a hobbs output signal to my one relay to turn off and on the second pump.
But, i guess this is one example of the hobbs failing.
not sure what best thing to do is now.

I don't know if it had anything to do with the rain but we got a wild rain storm and I had to drive in it for 15 minutes so it is possible it got wet and caused the failure.
Now I wonder if my secondary pump is going to work ok. I don't know how long it was on, 1 minute up to possibly 2 hours.
