Changed spark plugs and now car wont start

I have a 2005 evo 8, i just bought it about 2 months ago. I took the car to get it tuned and the tuner told me i would need new spark plugs and he recommeneded bpr8es, i went to change the spark plugs and pulled out br8es plugs. After installing the new ones i turned the car on it backfired steadily and then died out after about 40 seconds. Tried again and car wont turn on anymore. I swapped out the old ones back in to see if those would work and i had no luck again. I re gaped both sets and tried them again and still no luck. The mechanic at the craft shop told me my timing is off, which i looked at it and it is. Could the timing be off because of my tune? Why wouldnt my car start even after putting the old spark plugs in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since it was running fine before you did the spark plugs, I would make sure everything is installed correctly when putting it back together. Also make sure no wires got messed up when you unplugged the coils. Your timing wont change from replacing spark plugs.

The mechanic said that because it wouldnt start right and the engine was struggling so it threw the timing off. ive double checked all the wiring over and over and i made sure that i installed them the same way i took them off but no luck

I dont believe so because i didnt think that was possible but my teeth arent lined up exactly the way they should be but it could have been like that before this happened.

If you have stock pistons those are fine. If they are of higher compression you may have problems with Protruded (bPr8es) ones.
And no - changing your plugs should not change your timing.

So the problems are NOT with the plugs. Any of them will be fine. Gap them down to about 0.022".
Is the car showing any code?

I suspect the Cam position sensor or Crank position sensor codes. Hope your timing belt didn't jump.

So if worst comes to worst would i just need to reset my timing? Im somewhat familiar on how to do it but i wanted to make sure it needed to be done before i start working on it.

should a car always have the timing get up to the way the block says? like would timing ever be changed from anything other than original timing?

You need to put your crank at TDC and make sure your cams line up with the marks on the valve cover. I've seen a rough running car cause timing to jump. Although new plugs wouldn't have caused it so you likely have two issues.
