Quick question

Hi guys, recently I've started losing boost, but sometimes I'm reaching full boost. I'm running a standard setup on a evo 6 with a evo 9 bov. I've noticed I have a manifold gasket leak and exhaust is starting to make a rattle sound. im also noticing blue smoke coming from behind down near the dump pipe and smelling oil when Im on boost. Standard gauge is saying 0.5 bar on peak but it used to read 1.1/1.2 bar. No oil leaks either oil is always perfect. Anyone have an idea if this could be my turbo on its way too? No shaft play in turbo either. Could I be losing all this boost from the gasket/exhaust? Thanks

Another tell tale sign of turbo on way out is white smoke when the car is cold idling... Exhaust leak pre-turbo can affect the spool of your turbo for sure. Any oil in your intercooler hoses?

Thanks for the reply. No white smoke on cold start infact no smoke at all, I haven't really checked the intercooler hoses yet was going to but car was way too hot. I notice the blue smoke coming from behind the motor down the bottom mostly when car has been hammered Abit

Fixed the exhaust leak turned out to be a bolt had fallen out somehow. But the turbo is still lagging at times and can smell abit of oil when on throttle. I have found what seems to be oil in the intercooler hoses too. Anyone else think turbo is on its way out?

That Turbo is on it's last leg of boosted memories and is about to pass on to infinite boost land. Do yourself a favour and start looking for a new turbo.

Here's a link for you, and a easy bolt on.

While your at it change the exhaust gaskets as well. Best thing would be to have a 3" full Exhaust made so the turbo can breath, and v-band every flange. the v-bands will get rid of any leaks. That what I had done on my Evo 3 and I don't regret it one bit.

Hey mate cheers for the reply. I was 90% sure the turbo was gone too. Replaced the turbo and actuator - turn key same thing again. Turns out the cat has been blocked this whole time ( or somewhere in the exhaust ) all these headaches for a blocked exhaust -_- at the exhaust shop as we speak getting done

Blockage caused the bolt to fall out with pressure, bolted it back up and the problem got worse.

Well... That sucks. I'm thinking... if oil was in your intercooler I would think there should be oil in your intake manifold. Try taking that off and clean it out. While you're at it take the front bumper off and get to cleaning the intercooler and piping. Some degreaser, a bucket of water and a chair under a tree could be a well spent afternoon. Your car will thank you Just take off the throttle body and wipe it out. I you want a good clean... some electrical cleaner would do. Plus it won't harm any sensors.

Standard evo 6 turbo with turbo smart actuator no free play. Changed the cat and muffler turned out muffler had collapsed on the inside. Car is going better but still not to potential. Thinking i should just change my whole exhaust.

Does anyone know if I have a 1.5 bar actuator if I can turn down the boost to 1.2 bar with a boost tee by any chance?

Quick update -

Completley lost now changed the cat and muffler, changed the actuator again to a 1.2 bar turbo smart, changed turbo. And now very sluggish car is barely moving ( like a non turbo ) went on got it checked out shop thinks it could be fuel pump or something. :/

Have you gone for a retune after replacing the turbo and actuator?

Nah, spoke to a tuner and said it wasn't needed as turbo was the same turbo and actuator was only a 1.2 bar.
