Evo V buying help
New to the forum so dk if there is a specific place for this, but I'm looking to buy an Evo V and figured i'd do some research before hand. I live in Canada so getting my hands on of these would not be hard at all.
Generally, how much would an Evo 5 go for stock?
I live in the arctic cold that is Alberta Canada, so how great would these be for winters (looking to get keep it as my primary car all year round).
Anything to be wary of from buying from other people or auctioneers?
thank you in advance guys!

Do you want to import a V, or buy one that is already in Canada? Do you just plan on using the car to daily, or track? If just to daily, you might consider a Evo II-IV at auction in Japan. They are substantially cheaper than the V/VI.
One downside of early evos is their propensity to rust. If you want the car to last you will need to invest in some proper body&underbody protection. Lancerregister has a lot of good info on this.
Also, if you plan to mod over 400hp, I strongly suggest getting an RS model. As the AYC system on the 5/6 GSR is prone to fail and will give you fits.

I plan on using daily for commutes and the like and im not looking for major mods to put in. Also considering importing. I have been deciding between 4 and the 5, but not sure if the 5 would be more beneficial.
Also where I live , we use gravel for the roads, would I need anything to protect that like mudflaps?

If you decide to import, you can win an Evo 4 at auction for like 2-5K Canadian. V's go for double/triple that. Contact John at http://www.rockymountainimports.net/ he is a stand up guy and can import cars, and is very fair. Tell him Jason sent you
The down side to importing is the wait. Expect 8-12 weeks from the time you win the auction, until it lands in Vancouver.
And yes, mud flaps are probably a good idea if you drive on gravel. Along with a heavy underbody sealant. Rock chips in the paint turn into rust spots.

Would the GSR version be a bit better for the 4 then ? And I'll check him out! Was planning on going through jdmconnection.ca as Ive had MANY friends go through this guy. And any key differences id probably be missing out on if I choose the 4 instead of 5? You have any idea how the 4 compares to the 5 in winter as well?
if you get a 4 be prepared for issues in the long run, if your going to get one make sure it has low miles /ks as you get major issues with crankshaft walk, gearbox and diff, 1-3 evos are prone to rust but 4+ are fine. 5+ have better block etc
But i do own a evo 4 haha
