My Evo never failed me, until Exhaust Cam Angle Sensor acted up about 2 months ago, and shut off the car a few times in a row- eventually CEL came on and it was CAS code.
I promptly got a new CAS from local dealer, and installed it, all good.
Now maybe 1000 miles later today the car shut off 3x, and the third time CEL is on- CAS again.
Now, of course I suspect moderately the wiring, but the car is a California peach with no changes in wiring.
The car is on stock-frame turbo with heat shield, and mostly DD/Commuter.
Has anybody experienced multiple CAS failures?
Or has anybody experienced CAS wiring failure?
I would appreciate valuable input.
Replacing it right away again, wondering if its permanent solution...
Thanks

No shield: it's all OEM under the hood, should function at least 50K miles without issue?
GrN cars run OEM hard with ALS (anti lag) making it all real hot.
It's not the heat: CAS shield required when you have turbo-header without OEM shield.

I saw many of them failed and everyone single one of them had no shield. I have yet to see one failed with the shield in place.
Justify it however you want.

If I am understanding it correctly, he has the OEM exhaust manifold with heat shield and thus should not be having CAS issues since its typically triggered from heat from an aftermarket tubular manifold.
And if that is indeed the case then I am with him in that it should not be failing this quickly and there is probably something else causing the failure.

Good. Here's a simple test. Wrap/shield the sensor and see how long it will last this time.Originally Posted by alpinaturbo

Thanks Gents
I will install shield asap.
However, bare in mind original lasted...long time...so for new one to last 30-45 days, is an indication of poor quality!
The shield, that may prolong the life of the "Borrowed unit".
I will install new on the "CAS-less" car, my other Evo- to see how long it lasts (with Shield).
I learned the following:
OEM Original off the car CAS is black.
OEM replacement from Mitsubishi is charcoal gray- you can barely tell the color apart.
All share part# and Mitsubishi Logo on the plastic body.
However, trusted advisor Mr. Fred seems to have spotted a trend - and alerted me to the color of the body - that Black CAS is reliable, while Gray is ...not so reliable.
Another thread suggested (posted by Evo specialized shop) that Non-OEM CAS replacements do not either work at all, or for short time- 30 days max. OEM works...but here I have to dispute even OEM.
Bare in mind, dealers are private companies, and they may chose to buy parts elsewhere, package them in pseudo OEM bags, without understanding the connotations to end user/consumer.
