Question Mass Air Flow Sensor missing, is this ok?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forums and a new Evo IX owner.

I was looking at my air intake setup and it looks like the MAF is removed. From reading a bit, it looks like that's meant for a Speed Density setup, which I'm not running. The car is pretty much stock and it might have had mods that were removed before I purchased it.

My question is, should I pick up a replacement MAF and will I also need anything to make sure it can connect to this air intake?

If you car is running fine as is, then don't mess with it. It already has necessary parts to bypass the MAF.

Ok great, I'll hold off on doing anything. Just wanted to check because I had a mechanic ask me about it. The car seems to run well enough, but I don't have another point of reference since this is my first evo. I'll probably have a better idea once I take it in for a tune.

Yeah, you may be tuned on speed density. Try and look if you have an upgraded MAP sensor and a IAT sensor. If you find those then your car is already tuned for it. Otherwise, you should be staying out of boost until tune. I'd suggest you not to buy a MAF but to buy a 4bar map sensor and get it tuned for speed density if you're willing to mod your evo!

looks like hes tuned without IAT sensor cause its not there.Op look at your intake manifold. on the passenger side you should see black sensor, it should say omni 4 Bar.

Ok that's what I thought about being speed density. So I really need to take it in and get it tuned. I didn't see any sensor on the manifold. Here is a picture of it to double check in case my eyes missed it.

So I need to pick up this part (http://www.maperformance.com/omnipow...evo-evo-x.html) and not install it until right before the tune, correct?

Still can't see it cause no intake manifold in the picture lol intake manifold is the aluminum piece right under the strut bar.you already got this sensor if you run without maf my friend.you are tuned already I see manual boost controller.

haha, oh man, I'm a total noob at this. The front part is just the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold comes in behind. Got them mixed up...

In either case, I found the 4bar sensor right where you said it would be:

Thanks for the help! I guess I'm good to go.

I would suggest a local with a Tatrix cable, or a good tuner to pull the map just to check everything out. It's good to be aware of whats been done to the car.

Yup. Looks like the intake air temp your car is sampled from fuel temp. You are good to go. Is the car running fine?

Great idea. I found a guy locally who has worked on a bunch of evos. I'm going to take it to him to do a boost leak check and a compression check for $100, and he'll also go over the whole car with me for an overall inspection so I can know what I've gotten myself into

Cars running fairly well. I burnt out my clutch a few weeks before I started this thread and got it replaced with a Stage 3 Competition clutch. I should of listened to the warnings!!! It's like I'm relearning to drive manual. I'm getting a lot better at it, but I am having a hard time not stalling out occasionally and it seems like idle drops below 1k rpm sometimes causing the car to die even though I'm in neutral. I don't remember that happening as much when I had the oem clutch in there, so it might be me doing something wrong or the speed density tune needs to be tweaked to account for the new light flywheel.

Anyway, hope to get more info from the local evo guy later this week.

Overall though this car is a blast! I'm really lucky to be able to own one
