People keep telling me to part it out, but ive already tried to convince geico to sell it to me but to no avail. Am I missing something here? Are they allowed to do this? Maybe because I still owed money on the car or could be some florida law?

I'm probably going to go look at this week if it gets to the lot by then.

FYI, it looks like this is the second significant accident on that vehicle, which probably played a role in totaling it (though from the picture it looks pretty damn bad anyway).

How fast were you going? ...this makes me want a rollcage. The evo crash score must really sucks. I would hate for my passengers to be hurt with a impact like that. Could TIG welding help strength the roof and frame?

Call the Florida office of insurance regulation and ask them what your options are http://www.floir.com/

Do not simply believe what Geico tells you.

definitely try and buy it back. Although it's apples to oranges, when i crashed my 240 in highschool my insurance took into account the value of the parts i had on the car( coilovers, LCA, tension rods, etc.) and wrote me a check for $6300 and gave me the option to buy the car back for $600. and i originally paid $6000 for the car. I didn't buy it back since i was pretty done with that car. As far as i know you always have the option to buy your car back. But I'm from CA and your laws and situation are different. Hopefully everything works out and you can part it out! i might be interested in some things......

Buying back has restrictions based on your insurer and whether or not there is a third party involved (bank lien), it is not always an option. I know of several people that have tried through Geico and could not buy back (even without liens).

Its already at auction anyway just waiting for the insurance to close on it. I'm going to check it out tomorrow to see how bad it is, maybe get the drive train back on the road anyway. It looks pretty gnarly in the photos; the frame buckled so badly the opposite side door won't close from the looks of it. Frame rail looks like it is gone
Wicked hit.
