very lean under ANY load! gurus needed!
need some help, the car recently had an hx40 setup on it tuned on maf and tephra v7. I removed the kit and decided to go back to evo9 turbo and use ethanol. after turbo swap only, the car started having this issue. the car will start up and sometimes idle is affected, sometimes not. but always, as soon as the engine sees any positive boost pressure it pegs the wideband lean and obviously doesn't want to go anywhere. the car seems to do ok when it is cruising, even afr bounce around 14.7 and seem ok. but as soon as you get any positive pressure it starts leaning out bad, instantly.
obviously it first seemed like something went wrong during the turbo swap, I have checked over everything I can possibly think of that I touched and everything is fine I believe. only other sensor I touch was cam angle.
I have even tried scaling 1200cc injectors down to 300, car barley started it was so rich but still super lean under load, along with maxing out the fuel map with no affect.
the car has new fuel pump, fpr, maf, map, boost leak test has been done.
have tried the original tune for the car that I bought it with (which didn't not include tephra mod)
on evo scan air flow reads flat line zero consistently when this issue comes up.
I tried even putting the car on SD using tephra thinking maybe there is still a maf issue.
car still does the same thing. as soon as you get the clutch out it is maxed out lean or anything past very little throttle.
I have successfully revved the car out to about 4k with very low throttle and it seems just fine.
sorry if this is written choppy, this thing is stressing me out and I'm just trying to throw as much info out as possible
mods- k272, aero 340 re wired, stock fpr, tial bov, omni 4 bar, FID 1200 high z, there's more but I think that's all that would be affected. car has just under 120k miles
thanks for any suggestions

forgot to add, right before I put the car on SD. I drove around the block accidently with the uicp off the TB and the car was very rich, would not build any boost (obviously), revved it out to about 4k and never went lean. so it MUST be boost related.
i would recommend you go get it retuned for THAT turbo that you have.
if you dont have any experience with tuning and or injector scaling you are only messing things up and it can be detrimental. the evo is very finicky with minor changes, the turbo swap is a big change.

I have had a couple people look at the tune and say that's not it. less injector scaling means more fuel! there's no reason it should peg the wideband lean even after lower the scaling number. the tune is literally having no affect on what the car does under load. only start and idle. I tune the car before on hx40 setup that I put on, 30psi, 93oct, and the car ran flawless.

ok wow I really question this forum now. this is turning into dsmtuners... found the issue. it was in the sending unit. no it was not the tune for the 3rd time...
I am the one who tuned the car on the hx40 and it ran flawless. not to mention I did have two other people that have been tuning years and never blew up a car look at the tune and confirm nothing was wrong.
I did reread my original post and it is very choppy and almost doesn't make sense. sorry about that. this thing had me very stressed out.
I did check the fpr line, thanks nor11384
there is a black clip on the bottom that has a wire ran to it. there is an o ring in there. me rushing through it did not realize this. o ring was crooked, fix the position of the o ring and now it gets good fuel.
thanks anyway for the replys.

good to know you got it figured out man...im having a similar issue...car going lean at wot and it used to be at about 11.2 dead on...now it jumps to 12.0 and sometimes settles down to 11.8...idk wtf is going on...is there a possibility for a tune to change on its own somehow?
alot of time these "my tune was fine, but now im lean" issues are due to some type of fuel system issue.
a fuel sensor on your rail with a gauge in the car to view during pulls is nice.

yeah I know...I installed an aem fuel rail with a port...on that port I put a gauge...I have to figure a way to put a gauge up to the windshield so I can see fuel pressure under boost...I mean when a fuel pump goes it just goes right? my buddy said that when I got on it it would spit black smoke...black smoke means fuel but it's going lean...tomorrow I'm meeting with my tuner so he can go over everything and maybe add some fuel to see
I agree with hutch. if the change is quite a bit leaner than usual than fueling is probably the issue. ill tell ya what, after what I went through with my little screw up putting in the new pump, I will definitely look into a guage to monitor fuel pressure.
typically when a pump goes bad it may be a bit louder than usual and will not supply enough fuel under load when it has to work hard. I have had pumps that idle and cruise fine but under load lean out.eapecially walboros 225 pump, I have had several start to die in previous cars.

well i went to my tuner today and tried to adjust it on the street...on the initial hit in 2nd gear it spikes 30 psi then tapers off to 26...when it does that it hits 12.4 afr or so then drop to 11.8 then 11.6 down to 11.4 or so...up top like at 6500 rpms it was going to 10.8 all of the sudden...I mean it was all over the place...he added fuel and got it to stay around 11.4 - 11.6 but still all over the place... this was a 3rd gear pull then his lap top died...on the way home on the interstate I dropped from 5th to 3rd and the **** read 12.4 for 2 - 3 seconds then dropped to 11.8 then 11.6 then 10.8...wtf? He said he has to put it on a dyno because he can't get the afr steady...injector duty cycle was at 60 ish...reason why I don't think it's fuel pump is because when he added fuel it would go way rich sometimes then he would have to take out... He just couldn't get it...idk...right now idk...
