Problems after fixing airbag recall

So I took my car into the Fort Collins, CO dealership to have the airbag recall done on my 2006 Evolution MR. After picking the car up from the dealer, I noticed that there were a few issues that hadn't previously been there.

1) The backlight behind the guages is not working behind the tachometer and the speedometer. It also turns on and off intermittently behind the odometer.

2) There is a annoying rattle/vibration coming from the passenger side dashboard area.

3) I also found two identical bolts sitting on the driver's side seat. They both had the #4 labeled on top of the bolt heads.

My question is, can I take it back to the dealer and have them fix those issues? If so, will I have to pay for the repairs, even though none of them were my fault? Please let me know what you guys think, and if you guys have any similar experiences.

Mine too! Now I am just so furious and scared that my car will never be the same, I have no idea what to do. Its kind of like leaving your child at a daycare, then returning to pick him/her up with stitches in their leg.

Two choices....

Bring it to the dealership and have problems. Problems like this...

Or YOLO and don't even bother.

I chose the YOLO don't bother option.

This is the exact reason why I am not bringing it in for service. If they truly valued us a customers they would give us the part for free and let us install it ourselves or let us bring it to a shop of our choice. Not to mention I also worry about them reflashing the ECU to OEM specs. I might have to call a local dealer and ask if I could pick up the part and do the work myself. That would be the ideal situation.

this is one of the reasons I won't get it done. I called my local mitsu dealership and they said they haven't had one come in yet and I'm certainly not going to be their practice dummy.

All earlier postings are correct--- I however, took the road less traveled.. Got it fixed and had issues and I drove the car back into the service bay the next day and asked for the service manager-- I turned on my lights and said--these don't work, they did yesterday, the after market gauge was crooked--again, their issue and the scratch the hell out of my ashtray top--, yep we walked into parts, ordered new bulbs and new ashtray and we were done.. all on the dealership.
Be professional, be polite and be assertive--don't be a dick. No, they aren't going to reflash your ecm to put in an airbag controller--if your wondering.

As long as no one you love is riding in the passenger seat I guess that's a great solution. Sure would have second thoughts of my relationship when I found that out, with any luck I wouldn't be prone on the hood.

+1000

Leave the bolts where you found them, go straight back, list all the issues, see the service manager in charge. Note the speedo and tell them you don't want anyone driving it thanks

by the way, I also got a recall for headlight switch change, I'm going to ignore it, after 10 years its still working so I'll fix it myself but if it was an airbag I would have to take it back and I would probably take my work with me into their waiting room and stay there until it was fixed, and ask to see the car right after to test drive it before you accept their work....do this next time you take it in. Don't pick it up at the end of the day at clsoing time.

This is EXACTLY where I am as well… I have a very clean, and low mileage Evo. I brought it into a dealership once to have it inspected after I purchased it, and other than that, the car ONLY goes to performance shops that know Evos. They know i'm meticulous and they KNOW i love my car. I'm not about to have a dealership compromise anything with my car.

My second issue is that the closest Mitsu dealership is at least a 3hour drive… I don't necessarily want to drive it that far for something that NO one has ever had an issue with.

Like others said, take it back and try to work with them to fix it. This is why I really wish they would allow a you to take the part with a signed waiver to whomever you wanted to do the work. I think someone else says it's a $38 dollar part anyway so I getting the part and having someone you trust do the install is best.
