Another air bag recall update
Just got this notice last week, no dealer on my the Big Island, would have to barge my car over to Oahu. That is NOT an option for me, not to mention the shipping company has smashed 3 of our cars (I work at a dealerhip) in the last year and a half! Plus they only cover up to $5k if they drop your car in the ocean. Guess I will have to look into doing this myself.
Had mine replaced at Harris Mitsubishi in Everett, WA a couple days ago. Took them maybe two hours and they didn't mess anything up. Gave them special instructions to not mess with the ECU. They even gave me a ride to and from work. Pretty painless.
That is great to hear! I've been waiting for a positive review from a dealer in the PNW.
Here is my experience with the airbag recall that I had done yesterday.
"So I took my car into the Fort Collins, CO dealership to have the airbag recall done on my 2006 Evolution MR. After picking the car up from the dealer, I noticed that there were a few issues that hadn't previously been there.
1) The backlight behind the guages is not working behind the tachometer and the speedometer. It also turns on and off intermittently behind the odometer.
2) There is a annoying rattle/vibration coming from the passenger side dashboard area.
3) I also found two identical bolts sitting on the driver's side seat. They both had the #4 labeled on top of the bolt heads.
My question is, can I take it back to the dealer and have them fix those issues? If so, will I have to pay for the repairs, even though none of them were my fault? Please let me know what you guys think, and if you guys have any similar experiences."
So basically, f*ck the FoCo dealer.

Sounds like Harris is a good address if you are in the Pacific Northwest.
It is called a "campaign" part. Buying something not a campaign part probably means receiving the defective part. I bought a campaign part for my DSM years ago and installed it myself. The part came from the dealer.
In this, and in other threads, I have seen some people mentioning not getting this recall done for fear of having your car damaged. I get the sentiment, but something you all need to consider: you are exposing yourself to serious liability if someone gets injured as a result of the defect, and you chose not to have the part replaced. What's going to happen is someone is going to sue you (and likely Mitsubishi), and Mitsubishi is going to point the finger at you arguing that you knew about the risks, and chose not to get the recall, and it's out of Mitsubishi's hands. Obviously this doesn't apply to our track-only guys, but anyone DDing their car, and putting passengers in the front seat, you could claim ignorance before, which is a fair defense to negligence, so long as you were acting reasonably. I'd be concerned about having to argue that you acted reasonably when you knew what could happen in the event of a failure of a part you chose not to get replaced for free. This isn't legal advice, but simply some cautionary thoughts from someone who has seen crazier legal theories prevail.
