I got this letter too and instantly threw it away.

Both my airbags have been disconnected since i started tracking my car years ago.
I'm good.

I haven't had it done yet, just collecting info to figure out my options. I'm going to have the dealer look at the car next week to give me a better idea on how long they think it'll take & reply back here.

Just had this performed on my IX GSR in Austin, TX at Roger Beasley Mitsubishi. Trust worthy dealership, older master techs performed the work, had my car back to me in 5 hours. Even fixed an annoying dash rattle I had haha.

To those wondering about doing it yourself. Yes they are extremely dangerous when they explode. When changing them or removing them from the mustangs that I have had I always made sure disconnect all power sources and to ground myself out before I started the removal or installation process. Also take your time if you are going to do it yourself. I will see if a dealer will give me the part and clear the recall, this way I can do it myself. Some will give you the part to save them the time.

Just got back from the dealership. Took about 2hrs and 30 minutes. I spoke with the tech and told him not to touch the ECU. He told me everything just needs to be physically moved in order to take the dash out-including the ECU. He understood everything and was honest. I got into my car and besides the seat being moved up I could not even tell it was performed. FYI, I have two gauges on the steering column, that needed to be moved, if anyone was wondering. All in all it was a good experience.

From the PDF above. So 2006 model year Evo's are not affected by this recall?

"AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2004 − 2005 Lancer/Lancer Sportback/Lancer Evolution vehicles built June 16, 2003 to
December 8, 2004"

Update: Dealer says aftermarket stuff would definitely add more time, keeping in mind I have a radio, gauges, alarm, & a radar detector. Having said that he had no problem with me pulling everything apart & then just letting them do the air bag swap & clearing my VIN in their system, so this is kind of where I'm leaning.

And just a heads up, when I talked about just swinging by so they could take a glance the woman who first answered the phone kind of let it slip that there was no way anyone would have the time as they are double & even sometimes triple booked because of the recall, so more good news.

Yeah if they are so busy seems like an even worse time to take it in. Don't want them rushing and messing up stuff. Guess I'm waiting to see if others are able to get the parts, have whomever they trust to do the work and get the VIN cleared at the dealer.

Anyone know of a dealer to trust in Orlando/Central Florida to do this job? I have been using Sports Mitsubishi before but their quality seems to be diminishing

unplugged mine today with no issue.

un hooked the battery. let it set for about 3 minutes to make sure all the caps were discharged.

pulled out the glove box.
Airbag plug is kinda "up", and has a green latch that pulls down, then you push the release and it comes apart.

put everything back together.

car runs fine. SRS light on dash stays lit now.

This will do until i get a chance to get it to a dealer.
