Ill probably try and remove all the aftermarket gauges and radio and stuff to try and make it easiest on the techs.

What a pita. Why happens if I don't fix it. My nearest dealer is an hour away. Also my boost gauge had long wires so I zip tied avery thing up under the dash, and honestly I have no clue what it is zip tied to but I don't want them messing anything up.

This is what I got from Mitsubishi Canada in response to an inquiry:

Thank you for contacting Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to our customer's questions and comments.

This is to confirm that there are currently 2 recalls on your vehicle. 1. the passenger side airbag, 2. the reprogramming of the PCM. You can contact a Mitsubishi dealership in Canada to see if they are willing to complete the recalls. If not, you will have to go to the States to have them done.

We trust this information has been of assistance.

Thank you again for contacting Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc.

With Kind Regards,

When i called the guy i know at the dealership, i was the first to call about it. Might just wait till they get more done. The dash is a big piece to take out so something is guaranteed to get broken.

We haven't heard anything about this yet for Aussie Evo's, and I'm not sure if we will, but I'm wondering if the PCM recall is to do with the airbag issue, maybe something to do with the new airbag components, or another issue. If they need to do the PCM update because of the airbag changes will it effect the tune on the ECU. If a factory map got on my ECU and I tried to start my car it would probably explode instantly!

I have a the DOuble Din with a Nexus 7 and LCD readout for my boost/afr/oil temp/water temp in the clock area. That would be my only concern.

The PCM recall, which dates to a year or more ago, is to deal with a problem where too rich a mixture burns out the cat. So, if you are running anything but the stock tune plus cat, you don't want this.

At the very least unplug your airbag if you DO NOT get the item fixed.
I can not stress how serious this recall is. You are at risk of aluminum shrapnel killing your passenger(s)... there is no proof it can not kill someone in the backseat either.
Its something not worth risking.

There has been a report for a Takata airbag recall where the police officers upon arrival originalyl thought they were investigating a homicide instead of a car accident....

just googled for some of the images and they are pretty disturbing. What I would really like to know is if the driver is in danger. At least in the meantime i just wont have any passengers.

Another air bag recall update

Called the local dealership. They are booked for the next month and a half and won't schedule any more appointments. That's convenient. Service manager's response: "well, you've been driving around for the last ten years with no issues; you can wait."

Actually I mind that less then the idea of having my car in pieces by somebody who is trying to turn a buck and do it as quickly as they can and break a bunch of things in the process.

After all the car was a private import that was never officially sold in Canada. That process also made the car lose its warranty which luckily I never needed.
