Was curious about a issue for a 9

I found a guy selling a evo for around 17, 90k evo 9 gg, and he mentioned what was wrong ofc, and one of them was this quote

"- Flywheel needs to be replaced and is causing a rotational vibration (clutch was replaced around 1000 miles ago" what can cause that vibration? I assumed it was a tranny related issue but never really heard of it, so assumed possibly the TCase? Or is this more than im thinking? any help would be awesome.

usually a loud whining sound that gets worse as you accelerate is what is associated with a dead transfer case. You are probably looking at $900-$1500 parts and labor to have that flywheel swapped out.

depending on the type of clutch, it could just be clutch chatter which can create vibrations/noise from the tranny.

No one will be able to tell you for certain, but I think you know that.
A flywheel vibration can also be it coming lose. This can destroy a crank.

FWIW, my fx400 does not like to sit. Corrosion builds up between the clutch and flywheel and it gets chatter... If I drive it for consecutive days I have no issues.

I honestly wouldn't go after that car. Could end up being a serious money pit. Buying a car with issues you might as well throw your wallet down a black hole.

Had the same issue, it was actually the throwout bearing in my case. Problem is it could cause damage to the transmission and the labor costs a lot to fix. Might as well just get a new clutch too.

I had the clutch pushed In while revving it and it still made the noise over 4k. Can't be the bearing since I got the clutch down rigt? Was in neautral

i'd steer away only because the vibration, it not a huge issue itself, could have damaged something else. seeing how he's selling it without fixing it could be coincidence, the seller doesn't know what the problem really is/how to fix it, or they know and want to dump the car off.

if you really like it, i'd put in a low ball offer to insure you have enough money left over to get it fixed.

Figured Id let everyone know, I ended up buying the evo, he assumed it was the flywheel, or carrier barring, something else i dont recall. So I decided to buy it for 14, 89k, had a heavy rotational vibration at 4k rpm, after searching the forums I figured out it was the Balance Shaft belt, it literally had no teeth on it.. Car runs great.. came up on a good Evo just that it had a issue that him and his tech couldn't figure out.. Did the timing belt aswell while I was there with OEM. I didnt use any specialty tools.. and it was a *****.. highly suggest using those dumb specialty tools.. So car runs great now. zero regrets.

I got the tensioner tool from Jay. The sprocket holder thingy and the one that feeds down to release the hydraulic tensioner are AMS.
All kinda expensive, but I wouldn't do a timing belt or cam swap without them.
