Changing Evo 7 to Golf Mk6
Changing Evo 7 to Golf Mk6
Hello guys. I need an advise for changing my Evo 7 to Golf R. I have a 2001 jdm evo. It was converted from rhd to lhd and has high mileage. Car has some problems too and i can cover all of them with 9k. Another option is that i can change my evo to 2011 golf r with 6k. I really love evos they are fun to drive but i do not know whether it is worth it or not. Maybe some of you have experience with golf r and can give me an advise about that.
A golf r is not an Evo by any stretch. Especially the MK6. It has a a fwd based awd that doesn't transfer power until it sees wheel spin. They drive much more like a fwd car than an awd, and they are. It is a nicer car, but it is not nearly as racey..
Yeah that is a big problem. Evo is a unique car and i really love to drive it. But the main question for me is whether it is worth it or not.

VW's are awesome. I've driven them my whole life and i used to own a MK5. Great powerband, super comfy, with a touch of luxury depending on which model. Dont expect to make a whole lot of power though, unless you got deep pockets. The FWD is great on the highway when you want to go fast because you arent losing as much drivetrain torque as you would with a AWD car.

Thanks for the reply. The R20s are awd and i do not want to go over 400-500 hp. Thats why i think this car is suitable for me.

If there are only 3 evos in your country and you happen to own one of them, which has undergone a full conversion, I'm going to assume you have fairly deep pockets. I don't know how far your experience with cars and mechanics go, but imho, your main priority is going to be buying a car in which you can find proper support in your country. In other words, chances are if there are only 3 evos in the country, you're not going to find a mechanic specializing in that platform easily. You don't want to drop 9k into repairing the evo only to have it turn into one of the many evom stories that end with "only go to shops that specialize in evos."
Also, ringland issues on subarus are not as common as you would expect. The internet makes a lot of things seem far scarier than they need to be. If you're shooting for 500hp, surely some form of crate motor or rebuild from a reputable shop is in question.
For a lot of people deciding on what car to buy, or what mods to buy, the best advice is always this: Be realistic about your goals, and about what you want your car to be, then make your decisions.
