I'm guessing that for every post last time stating against buying an Evo there will be the same reply plus more people telling you not to at your age, wether it's a 3,4,5,6,6.5,7,8,8MR,9 or 10.

 

Don't forget 9 MR, SE, 10 MR and FE

On a serious note, you're right. Was asking on a more broad approach disregarding my age. More easing towards the reliability, maintenance, safety, and obviously speed.

Hi, can't speak about the evo 10s as I never drove or own one, but in my opinion they are a dulled down less extreme evo. Again in my opinion, too much electronics and not enough just pure mechanical fun. And maybe that is what you are looking for, the evo 10 is definitely more safe than a 9 or 8, with way more airbags and driver assists. But if you want a true evo experience I wold get an 8 or 9. One reason I love them so much is that it doesn't have any extras, just basic ac, power windows, and a radio. Just pure mechanical fun.

 

I don't think it matters which evo you want, getting an Evo for Your first car is not a good idea in any way. You need to get experience behind the wheel of a normal car before you get behind the wheel of a car that is built more or less for racing. Not to mention trying to finance or lease a vehicle like this at your are you will get raped with outrageous interest rates. Buy a cheap car, save your pennies and get some experience then in 5 or so years it would be more appropriate

 

Funny 07 sti's hold value just as well if not better than IX's.

 

For a "first car", a X makes more sense, IMO. You will have a warranty, won't be paying ridiculous insurance on a 10+ year old car, etc LOL. I also think the car is a bit more forgiving.

A better choice, if you ask me.


Update on my post: for Xmas, my son got his grandpa's old car. It's an '05 Mercedes C230 kompressor. I am NOT happy about it. His mom and step dad will be paying insurance and repairs. So, we'll see how that goes LOL

 

if you don't have an income or a steady income I'd say don't even think about buying the evo. Maybe get some driving experience under your belt and some more money then look into spending it on an evo. Also, how do your parents feel about it?

 

If you buy the Evo, your insurance rate would be super high. I'm 21 and driving a two door my insurance is crazy. You're younger and having a car with turbo, insurance companies would LOVE to over price you. Plus just have a really good lawyer on stand by just in case.

So, as everyone anticipated. Especially the old timers @kaj the insurance is bizarre.

Let's look at the rates:
Geico: 9000$ a year
Progressive: 10000 dollars a year
Statefarm: 9600$ a year
Esurance: 870$/month

Basically living in South Florida in a wealthy area, while evos are the most costly cars to insure gives insurance companies the right to make me their *****.

P.s. This is with student discount (4.9 gpa)
With drivers ed discount
This isn't under my name. It's under my mom's and I'm the secondary driver. Pleasurable driver for the car. 10k>a year. Absolutely ridiculous cost, not really worth paying when I'll basically cover the cost of another Evo in three years.
