Evo 6, 7 or 8? First proper turbo car.

Hi guys.
Pretty excited moving into a new world of tuning, I have decided to buy a EVO!
Assessing my budget and plans, I am only left with 10-12k
I understand that I can't get a Evo 8 with that budget at the moment, but:
- Besides cosmetic differences, is there a huge difference in terms of power / reliability / engine between the 3? Besides obviously a better ecu, turbo, etc. Since I will be tuning the engine, I can't justify spending close to 20-22k on a Evo 8 if it's the same thing.
- Besides being old, does the Evo 6 offer a more raw ride? Being lighter I can only assume so.
- Are parts between the Evo 7 - 9 range interchangeable? I'm mainly looking to swap out the rear bar from the 8 to the 7.
- Any pointers I should be aware off when shopping around.
Sorry for the long post. Hopefully, I can be here for the long haul.
If there isn't a huge difference in the motor between the 6-8, I think I'll be buying a 7
.
Thanks!

It really depends on what you're looking for. Budget aside, evo 6 had a shorter wheelbase than 7 or 8, meaning more nimble on tight turns at the expense of less high speed stability. Nothing major mind you, but difference nonetheless.
Evo 6 does have a more raw ride. But most people don't buy an Evo looking for a luxury car ride quality.
At the end of the day, it's a very personal thing, so I suggest you test drive several samples, at least one of each, and see which one suits you best.

My cousin has a Evo 8 which I drove, incredible machine. Which is why I want to buy one.
I'm leaning towards the 7 as I can't afford the 8 at the moment. By nothing major do you mean the engine? Or misc things.
