My glossifier experiment
My glossifier experiment
So instead of paying the bucks and getting a 3M car bra, I thought I might try a can of glossifier on the car bumper as a cheap and easy protective gloss coat to prevent road rash... and after taping off all the lights and openings I cleaned off the bumper with some car wash and rag. I wasnt sure what to use to clean the bumper, some said use alcohol others some car wash with wax so you can peel it off easy so I thought well i want to peel it off easy...
So I clean up the garage floor of all dust and it was an overcast raining day outside so I thouht good, no dust flying around.
So I started to spray, first coat went ok, then the second and now I started to see that it was real hard getting that wet look, as I layed it on thicker it started to run, as i layed off it then got textured.
After a half hour drying between 4 coats and an empty can it ended up looking like rubbish, drips everywhere and it even started peeling off itself in corners.
So I thought stuff it and went out for a drive, the good news was that it actually protected the car a fair bit but the wind had actually pulled off more of the material to a point where I'm going to start again. My conclusion is that I don't think glossifier is strong enough by itself to stay on a car, I think i need to do a few coats of plastidip clear matt under it. But now I would be getting up to a hundred bucks for 30 bucks a can in Aus. I might as well go get a 3M car bra done for 500....
oh well back to the drawing board :-\

I found also that the glossifier only likes to stick to other plastidip. I sprayed it on some fog covers and it peeled off by itself.
Look for the 3M spray on clear protector, if you can get it it works great for bumpers that are hard to wrap in film.

I saw the 3M product, I called 3M in Australia and they dont sell it here, for me to buy it off Amazon it would cost me 90 bucks a can delivered
LOL so basically you did not do any research or look at any DYC videos done by Fonzie. You would have know that glossifier is not meant for factory paint. Its meant to give dip a satin look and not as a 3M style clear bra. Just dip the entire car and call it a day. Im about to do my evo within the next few weeks. Its easy and you can achieve a look that is different than any other evo on the streets ad if you don't like it just peel it off. here are 2 cars that I have done over the past 2 weekends. Im new to the dip game but lovin every minute of it.

I too have try using the glossifier...however I only used on my front bumper lip. It only lasted 2 months. Its very very sensitive to touch and requires many more coats to really protect. I put about 6 layers and it was still thin ...unlike other real plasticolor coats.
