Day 1 evo 8

hello I just purchased a white 2003. I got almost all the way home and the check engine light flashed 3 times and went off. Once I got it home I looked Over the engine bay just to see if anything caught my eye. I found a few things

Several wires not plugged into anything
Small hole in serp belt
What I believe is 2 patches on the radiator
Covers missing off back of headlights now there's dirt and sand in the head lights
Inter cooler pipes that are zip tied on
The inter cooler is held up by two huge zip ties
And corrugated plastic to cover vent in hood.

Just the stuff I can remember. trying to see if anyone knows what wires are unplugged and to see if there important. Some wiring aftermarket. I do have a ext temp gauge not working so some are probibly that.

Also if there's a site for the back pieces missing on the headlight.

This is crazy but I can't open the trunk yet because it's carbon fiber and doesn't work. I was told there's a evo 9 turbo in there.

I have pics trying to put them on in the next post.

Ok I can't get the pics to upload so I'll try and upload them somehow.

This is why you always PPI. (shameless rhyming is shameless). Probably the best thing you can do right now is research and find a reputable shop that specializes in Evos or at least similar platforms (AWD turbo 4cyl) and have them check the whole thing over. Then pucker up your butt hole cause its gonna be rough.

The check engine flashing is probably a Tephramod feature that is indicating a few counts of knock. Its common for people to remove the water sprayer and other misc stuff so the unplugged cables might not be a big deal depending on what they are. The zip ties on the intercooler and piping is pretty ghetto and definitely a red flag.

As already said don't stuff around, call up some good Evo shops in your area and find the best and take it to them for a full check up, get them to list everything that is non standard and get the tune checked too.

I hope you at least got the title - because it almost sounds like you bought the car without looking inside the engine bay till you got home.

Yeah why did you buy it if it's in such rough shape I feel you could've gotten a complete car that was taken care of just as easy and for the same price

Almost certain I got one of the first Evo in the states :P But I don't treat it that way. Post some good/clear pictures of the engine bay and we'll help you out.
About the trunk, could it be released be the latch by the driver seat? Wanna trade it for a good-old-steel unit?

I have tried atleast 10 times and same thing. But let me answer some Qs. Everything that's wrong with it can be fixed with a few hundred dollars that's why I got it I can do all the work myself. I have a awd tune shop right in town.
Car runs n drives perfect boosts nice overall drives great. I drove it for 20 min before I bought it. I drove it over a hour to get it home with old plates so when I almost got home I beat on it once and that was the first time I noticed the light. I can drive it all day fine only when I beat it does the light come on.

Oh and about the trunk pull. Come on if that worked would I say I can't get in.

After taking out the back seat n using the emergency pull n a screwdriver I opened the trunk. The evo9 turbo was in there in great shape.

It has a cf trunk and hood and looks so sexy in white. This is my dream car. I owned a 04 Sti but allways wanted a evo.

There are two wires tapped off the maf that look like they plug into the inter cooler piping but arnt long enough to reach. I think I had somthing like that on my 1g for a tuner. Anyone know if u need it.

Found out the headlight caps are missing and duct sped closed because there are hids or something in it. I see some kind of aftermarket balist hanging out under it

Had to show you guys this one. It's the fmic bring supported by big zip ties off the inner bumper and zip ties holding couplers on. I asked the guy about it before I bought the car and he swears his tune shop put them on and there 100% legit. " I trust them". I just shook my head n thought I'll save this evo from this special Ed person.
