Seibon Carbon Fiber Hood Question
Seibon Carbon Fiber Hood Question
So guy has a Seibon carbon fiber hood I'm interested in buying. After looking around for some stuff on google I found a page talking about different carbon hoods and noticed people talking about putting hood pins in them for safety reasons. So I was wondering if I picked up this hood, if it's recommended I put hood pins on it or not. I'd rather not because I do not like the looks of them however if something were to happen down the road I'd rather not shoot myself in the foot for not having them. Thanks!
I have a seibon hood and I highly recommend you put hood pins in as seibon recommends this as well.
I got the aerocatch ones.
Before I installed them, the hood would move a lot and I was not comfortable with it. Cheap insurance. Plus the latch on the hood is not nearly as strong as the stock one purely because of the material.
It will probably be ok without it, but I wouldn't risk it. There's quite a few claims out there that the latch has broke off the hood at higher speeds.

OP, definitely get some form of good pin or latches to go along with the factory latch.
sure you don't need them for daily driving and city limits but they do exist for a reason. what will you be using your car for? makes me nervous on the highway knowing plaster resin is the only thing holding my hood down.

i have a seibon hood and the problem is not the latch in the car, its the latch thingy on the hood they tend to break off.... so i would strongly recommend to use hood pins, i installed the aerocatch hood pins and boy was i scared cutting into the hood but worth it
Awesome thanks for the inputs everyone! I'm definitely going to put some thought into it! With the aerocatch pins is there a certain kind I would need to buy? or just any kind of these particular hood pins work?
Aerocatch makes different model of the hood pins and all of them are good..i got the carbon fiber ones with the lock..... i would suggest to take it to a bodyshop to get them installed if u r not sure on how to do them
yup il take function over form any day. I wasn't crazy about hood pins to begin with and drilling into my new cf but I'm not a ***** so I ended up doing it. I'd rather not have my hood fly open, it's also a piece of mind and one less thing I have to worry about, watching the hood shake on the highways scared the crap out of me lol.
Bought my car with a seibon cf hood 3 yrs ago..and i think prev owner of the car had it on a yr or two...and its still going strong with NO HOOD PINS.
However the posts above are right about the hood flexing and moving at highway speeds, not too bad but i actually do plan on putting some pins EVENTUALLY...but definitely not absolutely needed.
