Previously i picked up an evo 8 with a blown motor. Built for 600+hp and only 37k on the dash. Bought it for $7500 (yes, 7500 bucks for a 600hp evo) and it needed bearings because they were spun. Best of my luck, i need new pistons and a crank upon further investigation. Just got a recap today and the new pistons and crank are in and the engine will be ready just in a few days. Here's some pics of the car but the bumper is just hanging on right now and the headlights are off. I'm new to the evo community and to driving so feel free to leave some tips and etc. below. Thanks!!
The cross hatchings on the pistons were worn off because who ever built it forgot to put the thrust bearings in. Then it just messed up the rod bearings and crank after that. Also i guess the guy didnt know how to drive a stick so the clutch is messed up. Not any drive train issues that i know of
car looks pretty clean hopefully u got the better end of the deal....only time will tell good luck with it. Like people said be careful with the car it can get u in trouble other than that enjoy it
that is either the deal of the century or you will have some bad news once you start to drive it. hopefully the former.
good luck, man. what a steal!
Thanks! The guy i bought it from originally wanted $10k for it but he has a family now and we got him down to $7500. Its a deal you dont see everyday that's for sure!

Thanks man, There could be more issues but at 37k it cant be that bad when it comes to the condition of the body. But i need a new clutch and hopefully thats it with the issues. I need to put another clear coat on the wings and calipers because they are faded.
Wow, that's some 'starter car' you have there! Very lucky! But that luck, can come back and bite you! I've seen all too many times new drivers get into a 'serious car' and either wipe it out in an accident, or, realize that it requires attention ($$), and get rid of it in no time. PLEASE don't be any one of these! Treat this car with respect and realize that an Evo is literally a 'race car on the street'.
Take your time getting to know it, and like what someone said above, after you are comfortable driving it on the street, book some track time for the both you. Put the time in, and you'll get a REAL appreciation of this car. And despite what your friends are gonna' say when your at a red light, as it turns green, use moderation, and save it for the track! Don't become just another statistic...
Sorry for the 'rant! I'm a parent, and an Evo Veteran and read stories like this...I sincerely wish you the BEST, and enjoy this Monster! Both of you have lots of potiental!
