My 03 Evo8 would only rev but wont go!
Was cruising the other day in my 03 Evo 8 and my car stalled and suddenly rolled to a stop. Car still in goes in gear freely but would only rev but wont go. Had it towed home and there was a rattle noise coming from the driver side axle. Could be coming from the tranny also. I took the axle out and did not find anything wrong with it. Don't wanna pull out the tranny cuz I do have a new stage 3 clutch with 5k. There is no transfer case death wine. I don't launch the car or dump it at all. Although I did come back from a dyno session and dont know why my car would crap out of me now. Something funny I wanna mention is that after my car did this, when I leave my car in gear, it does not die. Need expert advice!
Sounds like your clutch may be dead. Hopefully that's what it is, because transmission parts are far more expensive.
Either way, you gotta drop the trans.
I've seen the hub rip out of the disc before. It was kinda like you're explaining

This is the first time it happened. As I mentioned earlier, was just cruising and my car stalled to a stop. My evo could still be put into gear freely but when you give it has, it would just rev but not move as if no power was going to the wheels. Towed home and can hear a rattle noise coming from the driverside axleshaft/tranny. I took the axle out and could find nothing. Its kind of weird cuz when my car is idling, I can put it in any gear without it stalling and dieing. You can even push it when its in gear. New clutch has 5k stage 3 competition. Had a dyno session done recently with no problems..please help!

Yes even though the car is in gear while the car is off, u can still push it freely as if its in neutral. The funny thing is that even though its in gear with the engine running, even when u let off the clutch the car doesn't die
Trans is going to have to come out. Something that transfers power between the engine and wheels is broken. And you won't know what it is until you get the systems broken down. Since your clutch hasn't been in long, I would hope something may have been installed incorrectly and gave.
from your description of your problems, I believe a failed clutch is probably a best case scenario. You should pop the inspection plug out and shine a light up in there and see if you can determine whats going on. No matter what, the trans is going to have to come out though, as others have indicated.
