Rear Ended at a Stoplight!!!!!!
Rear Ended at a Stoplight!!!!!!
Last night at around 1:45am i was sitting at a stoplight and out of no where some moron in a honda accord hits me at about an estimated 15 to 20mph.... Honestly i was suprised how little damage there was but today im left with a hurting neck and back to say the least! My question here is i have got under the car and a quick inspection reveled that there were many mounts on the bumper broken and im worried about frame damage. The claim inspectors are supposed to come out on tuesday to check it out. Should i make them get under the car as well to see the damage i know is there? because at first glance it doesnt look bad at all...... by the way its was a square hit in the rear bumper....
Yes! Have the inspectors look. I got rear ended about 6 Months ago and the damage didn't look bad at all until the bodyshop took it apart. The frame was ok but they had to do a lot of work to get the bumper perfect.
I hope this guy was insured cause the fix is EXPENSIVE. My hit was a little less that yours 10-15 MPH (I think) but the parts for our cars are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
Good Luck

And GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! If you have pain you need to go ASAP cause the Insurance will be suspicious if you wait too long. As for the damage...take the car to a body shop (That you choose, not the insurance's shop) and have them take off the bumper and check out everything including frame rails under the trunk. Also check the trunk to make sure the floor pan didn't buckle.
I was rear-ended a month ago at about 35 mph and the repair bill will be about 4500 by the time I get it back. Both frame rails are bent, the floor pan is buckled and the bumper absorber and support need replaced.
DO NOT ACCEPT ANY SETTLEMENT until you have the car fixed. Fight for every penny and claim personal injury. Find a good lawyer around your area and hit them up for information about your rights...you don't have to pay until you sign a retainers form.
And you can also claimed Diminished Value once the repairs are done. I've been dealing with all this B.S. for the last two weeks so it's still fresh in my head if you have any questions.

depending on which ins. co. you have they should know to look at the underbody and frame, i have progressive, when i got in a wreck the guy did a very thorough job of inspecting the car, oh and the other guy is right get to the doctor asap, medical claims are much harder to substantiate by the time the claim is being looked at by the insurance co. if you're healed by then there is no proof
Ballistic evo, when you put the car on the lift, look at where the bumper brace(under cover) attaches to your frame and the drivers side frame rail about 4 inches in from bumper support as some hoses connect to it from your charcoal canister(dont ask)and is very easily kinked/bent in that area(I know, was rear-ended last weekend at about 5-10 mph)and bumper cover looked ok so i let the girl go,then got it to work and saw the real damage.Do not,I repeat,do not let insurance cut out a check for damage until body shop removes bumper cover and support to reveal the true extent of the damage or the body shop will just make it look pretty,as thats all that they got paid to do.Make sure that the vehicle gets put on a lift to inspect and gets an alinement when car is repaired.Good Luck as insurance companys only like to take money in,not give it when damage is done.
will a body shop charge me anything upfront for removing the bumper... right now the car is driveable and doesnt look bad at all.... I honestly cannot afford a rental out of pocket right now because i have mad bills......

today was my first chance for a day time inspection and i got looking.. looked around behind the bumper cover for about 10 mins then finally saw it like i kick in the teeth! the rear part of the driverside frame rail is bent all to hell....... looks like it may have even distured some suspension..... i guess ill see.... dumbass shoulda been paying attention what a fool!
I was also rear ended about 2 months ago at a red light. The shop restored it almost to stock perfection. When looking for a shop I just suggest people with the right equipment. My total came out to be around 5-6k.

It's pretty common to have hidden damages. The body shop gets the insurance company to authorize additional work if it's needed. At least that's the way it worked for me the last 2 times I needed body work.
Hope you had a police report filled out..
Insurance Companies are sticklers when paying out and they always require an accident report..
I also would have called the Paramedics or make a trip to the doctor pronto..
Just in case you have unseen neck or body damage AND to strenghten your case in court IF you sue..plus it's good to do from a preventative standpoint.
Not an attorney (obviously) but just me .02

the dumbass cop wouldnt file a police report but i do have an exchange of information sheet which shows the guy at fault... Thankfully after talking to numerous body shops they all say that GMAC is fairly cooperative when it comes to claims. I will be getting an estimate tomorrow as well as a lawyer.... They have been a bit jerky about some issue's already. Also they have tried to avoid the subject of paying for diminished value due to a wreck... at this point what i see it wont be the same without a huge amount of work... being the stock trunk isnt painted... thats gonna be a dead give away unless they remove the entire trunk plate and replace it...... Bumper has to be replaced.. Some how they are going to have to repair the frame.. i got no idea on this one... its bent bad enough its going to need to be cut out and replaced...... its really endless here there is so much wrong....
worst part from the exterior it just looks like a few scuff marks.......
