Take it to a shop that knows Evos and have them check: engine compression, transfer case/transmission/rear diff for any slipping/grinding, AYC pump for leaks. Also have them put it up on a lift and check the undercarriage for rust.

If you buy it, I would recommend replacing the belts and water pump, unless its clear they have been changed recently. Also, consider new bushings, those stock ones will likely be showing their age.

Lastly, an Evo 9 BOV and turbo are cheap upgrades that should get you to ~450 hp on E85 (with new fuel pump and injectors for the E85).

If the ayc light is on get the owner to knock off whatever the price of the ayc pump costs in your currency. The evo 4 ayc pump is terrible. Make sure the car boosts properly and drives well at constant speed as I've seen the tb seals start to crap out in the 100k miles range. Find out when the clutch was done. Find out when the timing belt was done and if the waterpump had been done with it. Ask about how often fluids have been done from the coolant all the way to the rear diff. After that check all your basic stuff. For exterior/interior just check for rust on the rocker panels and the rear quarter panels where they connect to the bumper. For interior just make sure the seats are in good shape as the Evo 4 interior is entirely unique to it. Also you can always check for crank walk (while driving in first gear in a parking lot turn the steering wheel to left lock and push in the clutch, if the pedal sticks don't buy the car).

You will need an evo 5+ ecu and a set of 560cc injectors from a 5-9 to map. The 5/6 ecus are direct hook ups. If you get a 7-8 ecu you will have to repin a few harnesses.

The IX bov is all metal and will hold boost better than the earlier versions. You can find them used pretty cheap.

do you know someone with a ecu evo V or higher?
will 560cc not be to small for e85?

after I change ecu injectors and turbo I suggest I will need to let it map, or does the computer automatically change the mix?

You need to take it to a shop/tuner that has experience with E85. Have them do the injectors and tuning. I would go with aftermarket injectors that are certified for E85.

You can get an 5/6 ECU on ebay.

If you are a lancerregister member, you can search the private sale posts. I bet you could find a 5/6 ECU from another member there cheap. http://www.lancerregister.com/

There are also a number of breakers in the UK that take apart old/salvage evos for parts http://www.japperformanceparts.co.uk/

Also, rosssport likely has everything you would need http://www.rosssport.com/

I haven't done it personally but my friend runs an E8 ecu in his IV and said it only took him thirty minutes to swap the pins with a guide off MLR.

I have seen those "guides" about repinning an E8 ecu and I have also seen tons of posts asking for clarification or reporting problems. Unless you are sure you know what you are doing, I would not risk it. If you go that route, have someone who has done it before do it for you.

ok so I bought the car two days ago, tested it and it all went well.
today I was driving the car, I was in third gear, push the clutch to change to 4 release it but the car stood in 3th...

the pokes stays kind of in neutral and is impossible to put in gear, but the car was still in third..

any explanation?
