So I'm about to do my spark wires (exact same setup/wires as an Evo 8) and I'm wondering if I should change my coilpacks too. The coilpacks are rather expensive and I've developed a misfire and found the bad wire. Can I get away with not touching the coilpacks for long? The car has about 100k miles on it. The current coilpacks were put on at about 75k miles and I've had no problems with them or the current ones, just the wires and plugs.

 

Just replace the wires first and see if your issue clears up. The stock coil packs have been on my car for 150k and never had a spark related issue

 

You can test the coil packs. Ohm them out, etc. See if they are in spec, etc.

 

I have done that. They're in spec. I was mostly just curious what the recommended service interval was.

 

really, there isn't any. unless the coils go bad, then they are replaced.
