in my case, I've been told that may be low oil pressure to the lifters due any of these three things: Excessive bearing clearance
Oil squirted falling out
Balance shafts removed without flipping the bearing
But every time i took the lifters out they were solid as rock so idk
also my oil pump its brand new and oil pressure in the gauge its fine
I believe yours its normal because you dont get any knock or issue
I had the exact same symptoms. Did all the same things to try and fix it. Gsc lifters. Different oils. Comp test. Couldn't find anything just a ugly tick that seamed to come from from back of valvecover near cylinder 1. Just learned to ignore it. Till I went to a track day at California speedway. And the 2nd lap of the last session I herd a terrible knock. Pulled off track. Car idled fine didn't sound any different till after 3,000rpm and it would make a horrific knocking sound with vibration. Towed it home and pulled the pan to find this.
Here's a video of how mine sounds.. sounds identical to yours. mind you my car drives perfect revs all the way happy to 8k. hopefully is something not serious
^it may be worth pulling the pan off just to check for something similar. Obviously, we all hope it won't be something that serious but may save yourself some time if thats the case.
Like I said I shined it on because the care was still running like a champ. I was killing it on the track. At first I thought the noise was the porche I was passing then I felt the vibration. And my focuse became the noise and my hart sank to the floor and I knew because I have herd that sound a hundred times before, it was game over.
Did I read right? You have elemenated your balance shaft? Unbalanced motor = more vibration maybe. But you said you used a stethoscope and can here the noise from the intake side correct? Now narrow it down to which cylinder or cylinders specifically. You can try cutting fuel or spark to each cylinder one at a time and see if that helps.
Hi i had similar sound like yours. No weird engine behaviour, idled fine and power was there on demand. Just that annoying ticking sound. Tried bleeding the valve lifters but sound was still there. Mechanic adviced to just change all with oem lifters ..... which i did. Sound gone and happily driving again.
ok i found where was coming the ticking noise, slightly piston to valve contact in cylinder 4 intake side, i think i could have avoided this if i'd have used an evo 9 HG instead of an evo 8 one. anyway i'm going to check if valves are bent.
