Need Help! New Evo Buyer!
Need Help! New Evo Buyer!
Hey everyone,
Like the title says I am days away from buying an 06 Evo 9 GSR and i have a few questions that i was hoping some of you could answer.
The car is a pretty unique case so ill start from the beginning of what i know.
For starters i am purchasing this car in Canada off of a private seller, who beforehand bought the car from a fellow in the US, who imported the car from japan. making me (potentially) the 3rd or 4th owner i believe.
The car has a few decent mods
( Link: https://gyazo.com/7d51d13cf46afe9755741872165bc49f ) and 36,500 miles on it (or 58800km) this will be my first "real" car purchase and as you can imagine im pretty excited.
Here is where i need some assistance though.
The gentleman im buying the vehicle off of is a pilot, who lives in japan but works out of my city. To my understanding he has been living in japan for around 4 years now and the car has been sitting in an airplane hangar for that entire duration until now when he has finally decided to sell it (plates still have the 2012 sticker)
Being that the vehicle has sat for so long it is in great shape, besides some rust after being winter driven for two years then parked for 4 ( rust pictured here: https://gyazo.com/866858279b0c4b1c927bb281eb547344 as well as in the engine bay here: https://gyazo.com/d9e518f055701123664de8f327e55c71 ).
Ive already browsed the forums on what maintenance i should preform when buying a used evo, but im not sure what else i should be looking for with a car that has been sitting for such a long time.
I would appreciate any and all assistance with what sort of things i should be looking for / questions i should be asking before i buy the vehicle, as well as any insight on what sort of maintenance I should preform after the sale.
This will be my first time spending a large amount of money on a car so id really like to do everything the right way.
Thanks to everyone in advance!

I can't see your post properly but If you can't see it going or drive it, it's a risk. I'd flatbed it home, spray some light oil or dieso down the plug holes then hand crank it for a few revolutions make sure it's smooth, then all fluids and kick it over
I was thinking a good starting point would be an oil and filter change, new spark plugs, and a coolant flush and fill. The gas tank was pretty much full which had me worried about possible oxidization in the tank, so to combat that I was going to bring some new gas and top it up in hopes to dilute the sitting fuel as well as adding some injector cleaner into the tank. After that I'd run it until it's about empty and check the fuel filter.
Let me know how that sounds and if there is anything else I should add / change from this plan.
Thanks!
Just curious, if you purchased the car, how far would you have to drive it to get home? It might be worth doing an oil change and fully inspecting the timing belt before actually driving home. Oil isn't meant to sit for that long and still work to it's full abilities.

If it was imported from Japan (implying private import as opposed to sold through a Stateside Mitsubishi dealership) shouldn't it be right hand drive?
As one of the guys above said, change all the fluids and all the rubber drive belts in the engine for the car has sat a very long time. I did the same for my car when I bought it at 10 years old with a mere 31,000kms (~20,000miles) on the clock.

I dont have very far to drive home at all, as the car is located in my city. maybe 10km

I don't see how this car could be a JDM car. Just to confirm do you have the vin number? JDM cars vins are just the chassis code and then the production number. So CP9A6047 would be an example. The US models don't have ayc, thats the main difference.
