Is a tune a good idea? Yes.
Is it absolutely necessary? I would say no.

I would argue that your aftermarket intake (on a stock tune) is not so much more efficient over the stock intake that it would cause you to run lean.

You could get an Air Fuel gauge (which is a good idea anyways) and see.

THanks for all the comments gents . But I'm pretty set on what mods I want. I'm 33 years old and am over the insane modding bug. Been there done that. After reading all the comments my best bet will be exhaust now. Intake tp tune all at once. I'll slap some pics of her soon

No you dont need a tune for those simple mods, even tho a tune can help even a stock car make more efficient power and run better in general.

Evos run pig rich from the factory, an intake will lean the afr's just a bit, not enough to cause harm, exhaust will make the car breathe better, do yourself a favor and get a nice turboback and get the exhaust portion over with.

I'm a 32 year old man, and I can't stop... the cars/mods just get more expensive

As long as you are not doing extended pulls, or 20 min track sessions you will likely be fine. That said, most shops offer "re-tunes" for tunes they have done (like when you add a new bolt on) at a reduce cost. So why not get a solid tune now?

Really no point because I will only have the car on the road for a few weeks and put it away in the winter. I also noticed the Injen intake includes all new intercooler piping . Common sense is telling me to just do a catback now and do the intake nxt yr with a tp.

Go with you gut, no reason to jump the gun and put intake plus all the piping too will help, just wait a little longer and get an intercooler too

Skip the catback and intake and just go with a full turboback. Injen is not exactly considered to be worth anything over the factory parts.

My tuner loves the injen kit, and hes had good experience with it in the past. Im running injen intake, UICP, LICP on my 400+ HP build

you can see what I have in my sig, but I watch my afr's a lot and when im cruising their perfect and when I mat it they drop to rich never does it go lean on me until of course you left off the gas completely and the gauge goes --- , ive been like this for about a year and a half now, however I am getting tuned in about a month or so. My thoughts are you will be fine, like someone said if your not mashing the gas constantly and drive moderately maybe only spirited driving as the saying is now you'll be fine.

I listened to everyone's opinion on here. Just a small update
I decided to hold off on the intake until I decide to get tuned. I did purchase a catback exhaust. I went with the magnaflow JDM style exhaust system. Hoping to have it on next week.

A 2nd question. What weight of oil do you guys recommend? I run Castrol syntec in all my cars so I will continue the trend on this car. Previous owner says he runs 5-40. Is this recommended from the community?

Alot of the evo shops and owners recommend 20-50 since our oil pumps SUCK
